Copper "wire" wrapped in fine string

Removing copper from a 115 pound xformer. The CU is flat, 7/16" wide x 1/16" thick. All the copper is wrapped in very fine string. it seems the string is glued to the copper. Copper is being removed in 4 to 6 feet lengths. Is there a way to remove the string? Concern is the scrap yard will deduct from price due to the string wrap. Is there a way to remove the string?

2nd question - the scrap yard is paying tin prices for the thin layers if steel that make up frames of the smaller transformers. Is this normal or should it be brought to their attention that what they are calling tin is really steel?

    Thank you in advance.

Light iron, tin and shred are all terms used to refer to items that contain thin gauge steel or items with thicker steel that is more than slightly contaimanted.
