    separating different metals

As well as many others on this forum, I am new to the scrap metal field. I know which metals are which for the most part I think. What I basically need to know is....will I take a hit at the yard sending stuff like a cast iron bathtub, frame to a snow blower and some steel wheels etc etc in the same load? From what I understand, the tub has its own category for cast iron, and some of the other stuff would be considered light iron I think? obviously im not talking about bringing a mixed load of aluminum and iron, but when its basically all categorized as some type of iron, is it worth separating your loads? Thank you in advance for the help.

Cast and #1 Iron usually pay the same (but not always). I usually throw them together on a load. But you're taking a chance. Re: the bathtub - Up here, it goes as Light Iron because of the porcelain. Be careful with the snowblower because if there is anything on it that would be classified as Light Iron, it could make the whole load become rated as Light Iron. Generally, you need to have the stuff separated on the trailer. Then unload one type, go back over the scales and unload the next type ... If I do that, I usually load the #1 up front of the trailer and Light Iron toward the back for handling purposes. Nonferrous (except Aluminum Sheet) goes in the pickup bed and, again, roughly separated by type.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
