aluminum can bales (vertical bale press)

I am looking for a way to bale aluminum cans in a vertical can crush baler without using cardboard to hold the bale together on the top and bottom. I am currently cutting the cardboard out after the bale is removed from the machine and everything is holding together once shrink wrapped. I guess my main problem is getting the wire through the grates. The cans are sinking into the grates and I am having a hard time getting the wires completely through to finish tying the bale off.

The bales are being sent to a scrap metal company for reprocessing. If I can get the cardboard completely out of the bales on site, I can send the bales straight to a smelter and increase profit.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Why don't you put something int the grates that you can remove latter. Maybe some steel rods or something.

yes, get some steel tubing that is hollow...that should help and still allow you to run the wire to the back...you just have to pull the tubing out obviously before you go to tie it...SO make it long enough where it comes out easily. Try it on a small bale 1st to make sure it doesn't get "stuck" if the cans crush down on it too much.

Hope it works out for you!

It would take me a while to crush with your method. We are processing around 5,000-6,000 lbs. per week.
