    Stainless Steel

    stainless steel... Is stainless steel magnetic?? I have a few pieces of steel that look bright and shiny like stainless.. I believe they are home lamp posts one of them is magnetic and one is not... could it be that one is aluminum??

    There are many different types of stainless steel. The valuable types are non-magnetic.

    Basically, if it throws sparks when hit with a grinder, and is non-magnetic, then it is stainless steel. If it doesn't throw sparks, and it is non-magnetic, then it is aluminum or some other non-ferrous.
