Plastic and brass are not shred... is there anything magnetic on it? Can you remove the brass cap?

As long as it sticks to a magnet somewhere, my yard takes it. I would try to get that brass cap off if there is an easy way. I do know some water softeners are full of some kind of salt? I think it is, and I would remove that if I could...

I did that and my yard dumped the screws and such out and beat the plastic with an axe. Apparently their was some type of mineral in there because it stuck to a magnet so they took it.
