That is very iffy. Does it work? If the power supply and screen work, they may be able to fetch $10 each on e-bay. I don't know this for sure, but I have 2 right now that I broke down and will be trying this this weekend. Update: scratch that thought. I just looked on e-bay and those items ere probably not worth listing.

The older it is the better the scrap is for gold recovery. I see the big Intel gold topped CPUs fetch around $20 each in batches on E-bay.Such as this listing http://cgi.ebay.com/Gold-scrap-5-cpu...item3f07c501a1
But you don't know what is in it.

I would not go that far out of my way for a laptop, but I get 11 miles to the gallon in my truck which as of today equates 2 about 4 gallons round trip at 3.55. ouch! I would be out $14 dollars just for picking it up.

If it works, it may be worth something on E-bay without tearing it down.

Do you know how old it is? It could have one of those good chips in it. Or make a day of it. Go get it, but drive the back roads to get there looking for other scrapping opportunities. Have a nice lunch and just think of it as something to do to get out of the house and see what is going on.

Depends on if you count your "Education" as a reward. If it's worthwhile to learn how to do it, and have the experience of it, go for it. But if you're looking at shear profit...probably not enough for just one laptop.

get it, then take apart see what makes it tick, then put object through screen, then not so gently toss into steel pile, and finally, call it a day.
