My locals yards only pay 80-90 cents/lb for all cat5/6 with or without connectors and will count just about any cable as such if you dont bring it up. Does anyone know if/think I can get more for stripping my cat5 of its outer coat but not the individual strands/pairs?

If you get a lot of it, I would strip some and show them all the copper in there, unless it's the alum. braided stuff. They could at least give you low grade price or computer wire price, still better than shred price.I wish they would buy copper core coax here. It goes into the steel in a washer or dryer...

you know instead of putting your copper core coax in with a washer you should just strip it for the bare bright or copper price thats what i have done. i strip stuff whenever possible.Originally Posted by hobo finds

Cat5 now has its own category pays more than #2. Things have changed in the 3 years since this post started. Separate out Romex wire for a little less than #1 insulated. And all ends need to be cut off around here for better prices.

Cat5 has its own category here and it usually sells for around .65 cents a pound give or take.
If for some reason I <not have a couple pounds of it I'll throw it in with my low grade and it is what it is.
