    Melting aluminum foil?

Hey all just wondering if anyone on here melts aluminum foil. I know some places will take it if its clean but I also know that many places will not. I figure its easy enough to collect and wont take up much space so why not! make an extra few bucks! If I decided to melt it could I leave abit of food on which will just burn off once I put in in my home made furnace?

Looking forward to your personal responses! thanks

It is just very little return on the effort evolved.
There is much easier ways to make a buck.
One recycled aluminum cook pot would equal 3 moths of saving foil.

    Just my opinion...

Around here aluminum foil can be thrown in with aluminum cans. Once melted it becomes breakage. Extra work in this case means less money.

I've been wondering about aluminum foil myself. I ball it up and put in with my cans. Same with aluminum foil warming pan type things. Haven't taken to my new scrap yard yet but guess I will find out.

Some yards don't even blink at foil and some don't even take it. Previous threads here suggest that the problem with foil is that there is so little mass, that when "melted" it actually just vaporizes and is lost.

The foil is the same Ali thats in cans. But the Ali can smelters don't like it since its thinner and has more oxide in it.
It takes cryolite and electricity to make Ali from oxide.
After melting the cans down, they are left with a mess of Ali oxides that they have to get rid of.
Basicly the can manufacturerers don't want the oxides in their metal.
They can refuse to buy from the scrapmetal dealer, or fine them if theres too much contaminates in the Ali they buy.

To get rid of foil, just jam it into a Ali can, not a drinking can, deoderant can or a cars coil can will do.
Then use a hammer to hammer it in solid, then fold the end over, then chuck it in with your 'Domestic Ali'.

Don't put it in with the drinking cans, be good to your scrap dealer, who else gives you solid ca$h for rubbish?

If I throw the foil in there with my cans I get .40.
If I throw it in my sheet alum bin that goes to core buyer. I get .45

So my foil goes to core buyer for .45 instead

aluminum foil goes with the pop cans here,,its 60 cents under 100 pounds and 65 over 100 pounds.....i can also put any turkey pans or pie pans in with cans.....i rarley take in cans......the only way i fool with them is if i do a job for someone and it requires hauling off cans...

the biggest reason i dont do the cans is that i am allergic to bees...but i also just dont like fooling with them, i do sort them and put them out with my trash, my garbage lady knocks off 1 dollar a month if you seperate the cans for her...im more than happy with that
