    Capacitor motor question

Is there a difference between capacitor motors and basic electric motors?

single phase motors come in a variety of types, the ones with capacitors in them are capacitor start-induction run. The start winding is able to get a stronger magnetic field off the get go as it forms an LC circuit ( the reactance from the start winding and capacitor cancel each other out a bit ) Its used where you need high starting torque.

If you are talking scrapping wise, no real difference windings either are copper or aluminum. Probably will get a little bit more copper out of a induction start- induction run motor.

But hey never turn down a motor for scrapping!

I found an old capacitor motor but it seems to be leaking a black tar substance. It could be pcb so I'm going to take it to the transfer station. 20 bucks in copper isn't worth it for me

Its probably just Tar. If its got 'No PCB's' written on it, its OK too.

A Capacitor motor is single-phase motor with a running winding, starting winding, and a capacitor. Capacitor motors have more torque than other single-phase motors.
