how to black marker writing on monitors, etc

Got a bunch of vintage apple stuff I'm testing and reselling but have black marker writing on them. I want the writing removed. I've tried rubbing alcohol. Worked some but very slow, not perfect. Any suggestions?

    thanks

that can be a pain. I once won an auction, and when I went to pick it up, they went through the place telling their guys what all went, and was putting a big X on top of everything with a magic marker, never did get all those marks off.
Like they've already said though, try whatever ya got.
    Good luck!

Just make sure you test what ever you try somewhere that will not show. Some will melt the plastic or scratch it.
And good luck let us know what works for you.

i got 5 pickup loads of stuff.
maybe about 30 apple RGA color monitors
    about 20 apple IIe systems
10 vintage apple dot matrix printers.
30 5-1/4 apple floppy drives, all apple
just a few 3-1/2 floppy drives
Some off brand SCSI external drives
    2 HP150 systems
large box of learning software games
5 Hitachi computer color monitors for macintosh apple
    30 misc keyboards
    5 apple SE systems
A few misc apple systems, all vintage

This was all free from my ad on craigslist, This guy just wants it all gone. he was complaining people in the past would just pick through it not take it all. I promised to remove everything and he's gonna give me some vintage IBM towers after job is done.

Yes Goof off ,not Goo Gone (though it may work too) also get a Scotchbrite pad from 3M has to be 3M off brand don't work you may also find different grade pads in the painting removal section at Home Depot only remove as much as you need too if solvent is too strong you will just make the marker run and have a big black area
PS thay Goof Off is very volatile!!!!

I've used goof off sparingly because it will actually melt some of the plastic if you put too much. I have used magic eraser and graffiti remover together and it works well. In fact, it took spray paint off of vinyl siding on a house i was renting!

I use PVC primer/cleaner to remove black marker from sheet metal.I would test it on a small spot to see if it will
    etch the plastic.

Mr. Clean magic erasers take marker off very cleanly in my experience. A bit of water and a minute of scrubbing and it's gone.

goo gone extreme in the areosol can, it works great, but do not leave it on the surface very lons as it is extremely agressive, it will also strip oxidation so you will have a light colored spot if you use it on plastic
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com

paint thinner & elbow grease works on some coated materials that the PVC primer mentioned above (usually methyl ethyl ketone aka MEK) would otherwise damage

diluted muriatic acid will remove all but a trace of sharpie marks, but is not pleasant to work with

safest thing to use is lighter fluid, but it usually only lessens the marker, doesn't totally remove it

I imagine there are other household solvents that will do a similar job

It's also great at finding all the cuts on your hands you didn't know you had. IDK if this would work, but maybe Gojo.

Well considering all of the other things people have suggested, atleast you wouldn't be creating new cuts/burns.

I once wrote on a buddies car window in black sharpie "Learn how to park!" ..He was pissed, tried everything he could think of to remove it, even tried to get me to buy a new window. Purell took it right off. Squirt some on a rag and wipe away.
