    Creating Business Cards Question:

    Hello All,
I've been off this forum for a while.

Anyway, I'm online trying to get some business cards made up right now.

I'd planned to do so earlier, but have been anticipating a different phone # soon.

Also when the steel prices dropped back in July,
it slowed things down for me.
I was planning on ordering a $200 scale, before advertising to pay some shops a percentage...
So, I bought a $20 digital bathroom scale, accurate to 350#'s at Walmart instead...
I use it to make sure I'm not getting ripped on alum., brass or copper mostly.
But , in a pinch, it'd do for buying metal...

Back on-topic can anyone give me advice for creating my business cards?
    I'm looking on vista-print,
and there's a generic card design there under "recycling"
BUT the problem is I wanted it to say , "Residential" free appliance pick-up, Junk removal available (for a fee),
And "Commercial" "cash paid on-spot for some" etc.

Course the top of my card will read : "Dumb D , Recycling"
...I've met like TEN people I could've given cards to ,
Including one out-of towners who's offered me thousands of feet in aluminum gutters IF he gets the job. (I pray)

So thanks very much in advance ...(Post getting too long , srry) Back to work...

i have all my cards printed on vista print, You can also have the back side of the card printed on which sounds like what you are wanting, that way you can list all of your info and items you take. They wont allow you to put much on the front of the card.

1st, look at the bottom of this page, where it says "similar threads". Those ones would be a good place to start. I made up a nice business card in M$ Word once, and it came out looking really well (although for two printed sides it would have to been folded, leaving the inside part blank, which I actually saw as a big plus, realizing they could use that part to write other numbers they needed, and once they'd done that, no way would they want to lose that card ; ) Anywho, I had no printer, and no way would it let me save the card, nor even copy/paste it. What a downer!

I had my last one's done on Vista also. I got the "premium" ones and uploaded a recycling logo to it and the back side is printable also. They cost about $32. a thousand delivered. You could have done the do-it yourself ones from Wa*mart for about 3.75 for 100, it's a cheap way to start out.

If you used Microsoft to create the cards, you should be able to print them off at your library. I don't have a printer either, so if I need to print something out it only costs me 20 cents per page. I can live with that,

Personally, I like to print my own so if something changes I don't get stuck with 200 out of date cards again (writing new info on them looks tacky). Plus you can have what ever layout you want. You could even put a coupon on the back that changes if you want.

That said Staples just had buy 250 full color get 250 free (don't know if it is still on of not) I have done a couple other things on their online print store and I like the way it works. I have also done vista and they do have a lot of "add on" charges but basic isn't bad.

Actually, I had hoped to do just that, but after making up the card, there was no way to save it. Maybe newer versions have improved/changed(ha!) but in 2000>tools>envelopes and labels>label tab>Avery standard business card, it's all in a pop-up window with two options (print, or close) It is a very simple setup, if you have a working printer with some ink in it readily available ; )

Bear, try downloading the Open Office suite. It's free, and you can get the word processor, spreadsheet, and a few other items. See if it works for you. You can do a "save as" and save it as a Microsoft document then print it out at the library.

There was a time when Staples had a kiosk for making business cards. But last time I was there it was no longer in the store. I used to use it from time to time when I was a landlord.

I have always used Open office (Micro$oft is WAY to expensive) and it will open Micro$oft office documents, spreadsheets and power points. Plus FREE is good.

I've run the Wa*mart do-it-yourself cardstock thru every printer I've owned. The cardstock is perforated every so often so it folds as needed to go thru a printer.

Call me low budget, I like to consider it extremely efficient but I cash in my ink cartridges for staples rewards money then use that to buy ink cartridges, receipt books, packing tape, and most of all do it yourself business cards. Tons of templates you make it say/look however you want. Mine is pretty crowded but the entire back is a price list.

Sound like you have the same issue I do. I do too many thing to list on a single business card, so I have four cards; junk removal, scrap metal, hot tub removal, and moving/ hauling/delivery. Really would like to consolidate, but not practical for me.

You can either print them yourself ( you will go through a LOT of ink, and ink is NOT cheap)

You can use vistaprint.com as you know already.

I personally use FedEx Kinkos for all my business printing needs (aside from company invoices/estimates). You can get 1,000 business cards, UV coat, 2 sided, for about $62 if I remember the pricing correctly. I know it is under $65.

FedEx Kinkos can't obviously beat VistaPrint, but VistaPrint is such crap when it comes to just about anything anymore, and it is more cost effective then printing your own stuff.

You can use just about any graphics design program, or you can even download some free business card creator programs. I personally use Microsoft Publisher.
