    PCBS???????????? Projection tv's

I scrapped my first projection tv he other day. Or at least whats was left of it. Some one else scrapped it and took our all the wires and extension cord. But left the 3 projectors and yokes inside

The projectors are leaking this clear oily stuff.

Could that be that PCBS!!!!! i don't know much about PCBS i know they were banned QUITE SOME TIME AGO and they are pretty nasty stuff! Cancer ETC.

I still do need to find an ewaste yard tho dont want to throw my low grade boards away when i break up tvs and such.

    Thank you chowdha

It's a form of mineral oil, maybe silicone based, for cooling purposes.

Man living iin an apartment sure does suck when your scrappin. I know i gotta watch for roach and spider eggs etc... before i even bring them in. Had to not tear into somethings and let some motors go but it worth it to not have roaches and bugs. Im glad ya cleared that up for sanity purposes. Besides knowing is half the battle...

Speaking of roaches...... I did a pick-up of various electronics in a part of town that just smells........ I mean all the houses smell so bad that it infests the entire neighborhood. It's disgusting. Anyways, I get to the house and the electronics are outside. I pick up the first box and at least 30 roaches start scurrying about. I thought awwww man! C'mon!!!!!! I hate finding crap like that! I had to empty the whole box out and clean off every piece that was given to me.

I've got 9 of these waiting to be taken apart....I put it off because I really hate that oily stuff inside if you miss the bucket or take the wrong screw out first and it leaks all over the table top. Stuff is hard to wipe up. I keep looking at em and saying to myself...''Meh, I'll wait another day yet.'' Lol. I come across them when the wires are taken too which doesnt make sense because what they leave is part extrusion and thats nice money too. I find them in all sorts of dismantlement.

If you spill it or miss the bucket, you might want to put cat litter on it. That stuff soaks oil and stuff right up. I use it for spilled motor oil.

I remember when i used to do curb alerts often and i picked some stuff up from a dirty part of town one night. When i got home i looked on the free section on craigslist again and someone posted "that curb alert was covered in roaches, nasty!" I then looked at the stuff i brought home and it was covered with roaches. I didnt even notice.

be careful with the coolant if you have animals, make sure they keep their noses out of it. Don't want to poison them. I spilled some in my driveway on accident...and i have a gravel driveway so it soaked it up, but I had to watch my beagle for a week as he kept trying to sniff that spot

WOW! Here we go again, starts out asking about pcb's and ends up talking about roaches. LOL there are no pcb's in projection tv's. Please if you are new to scrapping go to the brake down section and find all the post on what ever it is that you are going to brake down and you won't have these problems. I'm sure this has been talked about before.

I always read PCBs as printed circuit boards. It's been so long since the bad PCBs have been out there, you almost have to go out of your way to look for it.

No, i do most everything outside so that wasnt a problem but, still gross.

Happyscrapper: sorry about that. To add to the original topic of the thread, the oil is messy but the aluminum heat sinks you get off of them are nice, thick, and heavy

Yes alot of aluminum, even some of the projection lights that have the oil are cast aluminum housings and alot of wires. Too bad the boards are low grade. No need to be sorry, I was just trying to let you know that if you get something that you never broke down before try looking on the forum first and get info on the subject, you could avoid alot of problems that way. If you cann't find what your looking for just ask. Also alot of waste with those tv's, I try to stay away from them, too big and too much waste for me.

I took a bunch of tv's to goodwill today and as we all know, Goodwill is a major hire for people with special needs. The two men unloading them were such and the first was about to go into a panic attack b/c of the tv's............ it really upset him for some reason............ weird huh?

Why would he do that?? $$ is money. And if goodwill got enough, they could just take them apart...
