Pulling old fencing out of my woods

Pulling out old fencing that is stacked on my property way in the back. The poles are old but still in perfect shape. They are extremely thick and heavy. Could these be aluminum cast? Or just some serious cast iron? If jsut iron is it worth more then scrap weight? This fencing has to date before the 50's. .. I dont wanna get suckered at the yard. this is my first real scrap... and this stuff seems be nice old stuff. There is casting on some of the brackets with company names were is from... Cleveland company and an Illinois company.

Headed out to load up some more. Gonna check back in a bit.

it's very likely to be worth more than scrap, somewhere. Problem with that is where? That's what I'm finding anyway, it can be difficult to connect with an interested party, even though you're sure they must be out there. There's often vintage building supply warehouses around, that might be a good place to ask. Seems that those would most likely be used for repairing, renovation, or possibly adding on to a similar existing, possibly historic fence. Did you google the info on the name plates?

Might even try adding the word "wanted" to your search keywords

After contemplating what a building supply might pay you for them, and what they might price them at, I'd also recommend trying to locate a renovations company, historic restoration co, etc

I even have a few bundles of the old fencing. 2 Big heavy rolls still rowed tight looks like you could use them. Few smaller bundles. not rolled as nice some kinda rotten.... think these are of value as well...? this stuff has been sitting on a Forrest floor for years.... Its incredible its not rusted out Roots of trees have grown over the pile... stuffs not easy to get out had to break some roots.

Ever hear the phrase "they don't make it like they used to"? It's certainly true, and yours is a case in point. Also, that forest also has been protecting it from the UV rays of the sun.

There's chicken wire here that's been good for 50 years, and still strong as new in most places. I recently bought some new wire to wrap a small coop, and tossed it into the shade of a tree in the backyard until getting the coop framed. A week or so later I got it out to use it, it was wrapped in plastic, and there'd been a summer shower. This new stuff, barely a week after I bought it, wrapped in plastic, was already rusting!

scrap yard right down the road is paying 180 a ton... I got 3/4 of one now and there is more there still.. . So you really think I should set this stuff aside. its not vintage yet... and i feel your pain on that fencing you bought.... everything is made to break these days.... Fricken sad if you ask me

I'd definitely try to contact a builder or restoration company about it first, and as a last resort drive it by the vintage supply for their offer, before scrapping. Hopefully it'll get re-used for something better than chinese car parts

Also consider calling Cyclone fence about it, and talk to them first. What was it Ben Franklin said? uhmmm "Necessity never made a good bargain."
