One yard here just posted a sign that said no more auto parts that have vin #'s.....
Hobo...they won't take those pressure items even if they are cut in two pieces? and why no chain link, some of those are aluminum.
Joe bob...ask if they take oil tanks that are cut. I know here there was a sign at the yard that the EPA said they HAVE to accept them whole and not cut open....

The yard I'm going to won't take circuit boards or burnt #2 copper. Really, though, I've found that soaking my rough looking copper in a citric acid solution (Citric acid is easily available at wallyworld), shines it up and cleans it nice.

Yes but if your burning the copper then your releasing all kinds of dangerous chemicals into the atmosphere.
Low-temperature burning releases contaminants into the air, water and soil including dioxins,
furans, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, particulate matter, heavy metals (such as lead,
arsenic, selenium and cadmium) and other pollutants. The contaminants often end up in the
air, in the ash on the ground or as pollutants in the soil and water. Wind or water may carry
the pollutants significant distances from a burn site. Elevated concentrations of the pollutants
are harmful to human health and the environment. The effects of these pollutants on people
can be chronic or acute and can range from lung irritation to cardiac problems or even an
    increased risk of cancer

I think they will take the tanks if cut I know they have taken fire extinguishers that I have removed the top. As for the chain link they say that the place they send the steel to the shreader dose not like it!

My yard no longer takes sealed units. It doesn't affect me though because I cut all of mine open and clean them.

a friend of mine tried to take in an old stainless steel fire extinguisher, but the yard wouldnt take it.

they gave it to me, i cut it open in 3 min and took it back to the yard as brass and clean stainless. i think it was about 15lb of stainless and 2 lb of brass. Thank you to my lazy friend who refuses to work for a dollar

Better for you, sounds like the type of guy that won't be scrapping until prices are back up. More for the rest of us

Do you use it straight or do I need to add water/something else?

I don't burn wire. Either strip it or it goes as insulated.

I do have some burned however, from a fire salvage. Local fire dept burned 2 homes and I got all the scrap. Now I gotta clean it. Yard has no problems with the burned tin, but I see them having a problem with the wire.

Pics if any one wants to see.

Burned Copper! I took a load of tubing and wire from a house fire cleanup, and they wouldn't take it, funny, cause they took the aluminum that came off the windows

All of the scrap yards around here will not pay for any sort of appliances: washer, drier, boiler, refrigerator, tvs, etc

The only no-gos that the one yard has posted are tires and propane tanks. The other yard seems like it will take ANYTHING metal no questions asked (but their prices suck).
