Yeah, I did, but wanted to compare and make sure I wasn't getting ripped off.

No real way to do that, unless you call the yards around you. If a member here lives even 1 state away from you, and they say they are getting paid x per pound, it might be higher or lower than you. Doesn't mean you are getting ripped off. Just how their yard is paying.

I know here, the yard I go to, is the BIGGEST yard around. All the smaller yards sell directly to them.

Your welcome. I would definitely contact all the yards. Stainless is non ferrous as you know, so even another yard could have a better price.

This place is out of Detroit so keep that in mind, but their website might have the prices your looking for, for comparison only.

I just looked at the spec sheet for 18 SR stainless and the nickel content is near zero. It is a ferritic stainless steel and magnetic.

At the scrap yard I use 18 SR stainless would just go for the light iron price.

Yep if magnet sticks to it my yard is paying 240 a ton right now for steel/tin or shred as they call it.

I just called one of the larger yards in my area (CMC) since seems most of the other yards follow them. Got the following info for GA.

    #2 copper - 2.77 / lb
    Shred - 12.50 (should be 100#)
    Stainless - .50 / lb
