Buying 6063 Extrusion - Are scrap monster prices misleading??

After checking the North American live scrap metal prices for 6063 Extrusion on Scrap Monster, I have discovered they do not match the selling prices from the actual Scrap Yards.

    Recently:
-Scrap Monster (East Coast) USD 0.74/lb
-Scrap Yard (East Coast) USD 0.85/lb

Why is there such a large difference in prices?

Where can I turn to on the internet to find out the actual market price for scrap aluminium in the North American market, and other global markets for that matter? As 6063 extrusion is a globally traded commodity should I expect to see similar prices around the world? I do understand that prices fluctuate given market conditions.

Most websites like Scrap Monster prices are 30 day old, you can subscribe for a fee and get up to date prices.

LME exchange has some prices https://www.lme.com/en-GB/Metals/Non...ium#tabIndex=0

And Iron Mikes I think out of Detroit Scrap Metal Prices 10-24-2017 *See disclaimer for additional costs* | Iron Mike Enterprises,LLC.

Base & Industrial Metals | News, Charts & Quotes | KITCO Metals

Gold Spot Prices | Silver Prices | Platinum & Palladium| KITCO

And LME prices are in tonne

gross ton (long ton) 2240 lbs.
    metric ton (tonne) 2205 lbs.
net ton (short ton) 2000 lbs.

some companies pay more, to ensure their supply.

also, the people you contacted probably already have a buyer, so you have to make it worth the effort of splitting the shipment, or irritating their regular buyer.

to replace somebody, you need to be more convenient than their current solution. weather its better pricing, an easier transaction, more flexible deliveries, it could be different for every company you deal with.
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

Regarding Scrap Monster I've signed up for 1 month so I am able to view the "live" daily prices.

LME & KITCO is great to provide an overall projection on aluminium.

Detroit Scrap Metal Prices market prices seem consistent with Scrap Monster, which is where they likely get their data from. I will drop them an email to see if they are willing to sell at market price (which would be great!).

some people like to start of by asking if they are happy with thier current service provider, and see what info you get from their reply

sometimes you can even get lucky and ask that on a day when their current provider screws em over. the scars and anger will be fresh and they'll be more easily persuaded to switch buyers.

There is no way in hades you will get spot price unless you have a few thousand tons to barter with.

And why are some folks surprised that prices are not the same "everywhere" ? There is a lot of "stuff" that can affect regional prices.

Valid point, but he is a buyer asking why he is asked to pay more than spot.
