    Price check

    Newbie here,

I’m looking to get into scrapping copper and aluminum. How often do prices change for #1 copper(for example) and how often do you check?Do you call the scrapyard every day?

    thanks

Call a few yards in your area and get prices for a few items. Then as it gets closer to turning stuff in call and see what they are paying. I check steel prices once a month as prices here seem to be locked in for awhile on steel. As for the "good stuff" prices can change almost daily depends on the yard you go to.

That's my concern for the "good stuff"..I'd like to time it as best as possible.

Mthomasdev, when you borrowed that from me I said you could use it only for a few months.

    I want my ball back.

No, I actually have 2. What I should have said was that my wife wants my ball back.

To get a little closer to the subject I suggest you call a couple of yards and see what they are paying. Even call a yard further away. Likely you will find that the price difference is very little.

In my case a local yard pays very low for Al but everything else is in line and is close by. So when I am selling Al I go to the other main yard I use. With a little experience you will learn what goes on in your location.

The biggest way to make more money in the scrap business is read more of the old threads on the forum. You will be able to recognize opportunities you may have missed out on.

So keep reading and keep scraping it will work out if you keep doing what I(and others)have suggested. 73, Mike
