    Eastern Ontario Scrap Prices

Anyone have opinions on who pays the best in Eastern Ontario for scrap? Ottawa seems to be quite low. Cornwall seems to be higher than most. Why does AIM Ottawa pay so much less than AIM Cornwall? Same company. Gerdau in Cornwall seems to always be the highest around. Opinions?

Do both yards "process" there scrap? Or is one just a drop off transfer yard?

In my area a company owns 3 yards in only 50 miles. 2 pay lower than the main yard because they need to transport it to the main yard for processing. They are just passing the fuel bill to us by lower prices. I try to get to the main yard as much as possible but one of the transfer yards is literally 4 blocks away from my day job. Convenience is costing me $5/gt on tin. Sucks for us and but good for them.

They pay so little because they can. From what I've seen, lots of businesses just seem to be happy to get the stuff off their trucks. I have to shake my head sometimes seeing box trucks full of appliances being dumped without even the cords being cut.

I'm thinking I will stick to hauling to Cornwall if that's the case. AIM Cornwall pays well by you need to watch the pricing. They pay MT and Gerdau pays NT. AIM adds something like $5 to whatever Gerdau pays but then you need to convert it to NT to see the real value. But overall Cornwall seems to be the area paying the most. Gerdau seems low on NF but I have been able to get more than the list price just by bringing in large volume and asking ahead of time if they could do better.

Biggest difference, if you ask me, is property tax. Big taxes for a yard that size in the industrial park. Also they seem to have a monopoly in Ottawa. Little to no competition.
I don't sell in Ottawa anymore. Only advantage in Ottawa is that they are open early and close late.

I just looked online and saw that the hours were better in Ottawa. But the price difference is too much to overcome. I heard this morning that we can get $3.00/lb for barebright copper in Cornwall.
