Interesting Article, and the future of scrap pricing

I've seen two separate, and very informative, programs on TV about China and the scrap market. Here's a link to part of what they were focusing on:

China to set new 5-Year Plan - Global Times

The talk is that if China decides to invest heavily in Central Asia's infrastructure, then scrap prices will rebound fairly quickly. Doing some more research on this, ad the Central Committee meeting is at the end of October. Let's hope they decide to build. baby, build!

I really do hope they start buying imported scrap metal again. I am still not sure if they will or not. When the scrap prices were booming China was importing scrap metal to support the building of fake cities. Once they were finished the scrap prices started shrinking. If we can get Turkey and China purchasing again on a global scale I really think we will see a price increase but I do not believe we will see the huge price spike like we have seen in the past 5 years.

Good post, the kind you need to follow, if your serious about recycling. you also have to read between the lines.

China has become a country of imitators instead of innovators. in the 50s/60s they murdered most of thier thinkers by the millions there for destroying that gene pool.

Their methodology today is to use their vast cheep labor force to copy and out produce the world. they were very successful except for one thing, they did not learn a 11,12% growth is un sustainable with out creating a huge economic bubble some where. Their bubble burst some months ago to the tune of 3 trillion $.

While they were buuilding their "ghost" cities they also built from scratch a new 700+ Navy (nearly)100% metal . The Chinese are not stupid they learn from their mistakes.

What I believe they are referring to in making rule and party changes will result in the execution of some of those party officials who became Billionaires building those ghost cities and the navy. I believe over caution will rule the next couple of years with them.

With the Turks it's much different Turkey is a whole different country then most of us see or think and are a much bigger player in world economics then most realise
Don't forget they once ruled most of the known world. but they are surrounded by wars and boarder incursions and iI don't see them doing much untll that is no longer on their radar. mcw opinion
"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"

Yep the China buying made us lots of cash as scrappers and now they are selling it back for cheep. Funny the economy was so bad that everyone was selling scrap, now economy not much better but no outlet to sell scrap metal! I feel the next market is in Africa
