    I took a load of scrap to the yard and learned about a local e scrap buyer. The local scrap cashier told me of an escrap buyer who was local and I decided to give them a try. I went and asked about their prices and they started sorting my load and weighing. I did not check before it was weighed and priced and dumped into their bins. I think I made a big mistake. I should have taken the ride to Tampa. By the time I knew what I was going to make on the load it was too late. A mistake I will not make again...

    It's been 110/ton .055/lb here for a while now, including yesterday. Hasn't budged one way or the other.

    Just tried out a new scrap yard a couple days ago when I discovered my usual yard was both closed and known for ripping people off on prices. This new yard was over in Norcross, GA, about 35 minutes from me, but it was totally worth it. They buy all kinds of material as it's own grade. DVD/CD drives, PSUs, ballasts, motors from printers and small electronics, whole LCD monitors and TVs, and much more. That, and their steel price was at about 5.5 cents per pound, much better than what I've been getting in the past- less than 2 cents per pound. Took in a total weight of 791 lbs of material and walked away with $161. Granted, most of that was in bare bright copper, but I definitely noticed better prices on everything. The bare bright was a little over $2.10/lb.
    Just thought I'd share it with everyone in case anyone else happens to operate in north Georgia.

    I cannot share shred prices because that is not a category we have. The closest is tin/wire and that is paying $ 20/NT. Our basic categories also include appliances, prepared, unprepared, HMS, and the usual non ferrous. Combines, tractors, plows all have their own pricing as well. To give you an idea of our prices that most can relate to - aluminum cans are down to .20 a pound. This is half our average price.
    Give back more to this world than we take.

    Dang, are you missing a zero on that price? My yard calls shred "dirty sheet" and the most common thing in the dirty sheet pile are appliances. What are appliances going for at your yard?

    $ 30.00 / NT for appliances. Unprepared steel is $ 70/NT and prepared is only $ 140/NT.

    Well now I see why you prepare your steel. Here the price difference is only $20 between unprepared and prepared.

    5500 #’s went in Monday. Down to $80 per ton at western metals. Even with the extra $10 I get from then I’m going to start avoiding ferrous like the plague. I called them that morning to make sure they were open and asked the price. She quoted me 90 without my bump. I showed up and dumped and went in to collect and looked up at the board and sheet iron was listed at 80 with a date from a week earlier. She misquoted it. I was hoping they would stand by the quote, but didn’t press the issue

    In Sioux city, shred is at $160/ton (2,000lbs), down from $175 last month I think. Just hauled 1,100 pounds in my ranger today. Got $88 for it.
