Big price differences here between yards. Last week, called 3 yards located with 40 minutes of my house. Light iron prices were 2.2, 3.5 and 4 cents a pound. Checked 2 of the big players and their prices at ther yards were 3 (sims new haven, ct) and 5.6 (
Weitsman / upstate shredding @port of albany).

All of my non ferrous is getting stockpiled. Shred is the only thing I'm still taking in since I don't have storage space for much.

I just took in a load this morning and got .0325/lb. Would have waited, but the wife wanted the yard cleaned up some more.

Are you close to SC state line? Better pricing in SC if you are close enough and/or makes sense.

I have been getting 4 cents a pound on the northwest suburbs of Chitown for the last 2-3 months. still terrible though that last year around now it was 60% higher. God I miss those 10 cent a pound days.

Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of NC, so it is about a four hour round trip to the SC state line for me. I don't have enough/have a trailer to make that trip.

The local yard just lowered to $25/Ton here. I don't know what it is in Billings- there is no way that the trip would be worthwhile.

I got good intel last week that steel should have reached it's bottom. A climb will be very slow as everyone that lost money on the dropping market will have to recoup before they climb, or as they climb.
local markets will fluctuate, if the mill your scrap is going to has not picked up orders, your price will stay down or even slip some until things get rolling.

I saw a SS DW the other night and was going to go back to get it, but it was late and I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. In the 10 cents a pound day I would have carried it on my back.

Working on cleaning out the shop so I can move one of the benches so I can install an AC to cool the shop in the summer. I grabbed EVERYTHING! I wanted to empty the place as much as possible and boy howdy. Enjoy....
