One yard in my area pays 30 percent copper price for just about any low grade. In this bin are jumper cables w/ clamps, intact droplights, lamp cord with bulb fixtures, other wire with plug ends, and such.

Realizing this on a past visit, I no longer cut off and pull the brass from the plug ends. They go in whole with just about any other "junk wire" I have accumulated. Personally, not worth my time to sort. Just my take on the subject matter.

Hopefully, they will pay a little better on the clean lamp cord I have stashed, when the time comes to sell.

I've never cut the end off a cord, and despite owning a manual stripper, I don't strip anything as low guage as lamp cords unless I'm REALLY bored. Since I got the biz cards, I really don't have time to get REALLY bored!

Yes, I read/figured out that you had moved on. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors.

I will do an intro first chance I get.

    Happy Memorial Day to all.

Would that happen to be the one in Gasport? I have only been there twice but if they do pay that way, I'll have to consider using them more. Thanks!

Being closer to buffalo, I deal with Niagara on Union Rd in Cheektowaga. This was about 6 mos. ago. Haven't been back yet, taking in non ferrous. The Gaylord was full of "unclean wire." Maybe take some in and see what they offer or call for pricing on 30% insulated wire. Ask about other tiers they buy and how much. I believe next lower grade is Xmas lights. Being they have 4 yards, you would think they would sort the same.

A friend just scrapped a single heavy extension cord. 7lbs.at .50 equals 3.50 for no effort seems pretty good to me.

Thanks btkr. I think I should call them. I normally go to a Middleport yard that is about 5 miles closer. When I called that yard to ask about different grades of insulated, they told me it all goes as "unburnt copper" which was paying $0.43 when I called a couple weeks ago. Might be worth the extra drive if they know their metals better.

My advice would be to call and ask for pricing. Key to this is knowing what you have. Different yards have different buyers and
Purchase scrap to that buyers requirements. Flip side is that some yards will give you lesser money and sort and get premium money, if you know, what I mean.

Basically, you need to know who buys what at best price, and know what you have. "All clean, no green" is #1 copper around here. "Just throw it in the pile" does not work for me. One yard pays well for Clean extruded aluminum storm doors and such, while another says it has to be heavier than 1/8" ,or else it's old aluminum.

Insulated Wire is a little trickier, being based on % recovery. But the less desire able wire goes in the 30 % pile by me, plugs and ends and all.

With enough quantity you may consider buffalo or rochester yards.

With all that said, I do realize that I have more yards near me. Shop around and know who buys what. Sort accordingly.
