Horrible prices at the Scrap yard = PAIN

Steel - tin really doesn't matter anymore - 2 tons of steel nets 150 bucks -

105 per ton --- not to mention the wear and tear on my trailer --- at this rate im going to have to call a scrapper (lol) or load this stuff in the container

    $120 prepared

Yard owner raised the price $10 to his customers last week and said that the price to him hadn't
gone up but he was raising it to try to get some action in his yard.....been like a graveyard around there.

So last week a junkyard was paying 8.5 cents for cars (do not have to remove or drain anything), and one of the scrap yards was paying 9.5 cents (remove nothing but battery and wheels, all fluids can be in it including gas tank), well I called them the other day to find out it had dropped from 8.5 to 8 at the junkyard, and 9.5 to 8.5 at the scrap yard. They said to get ready for it to drop again next week!

I was trying to get a couple cars ready to go by tomorrow when I called and checked in today, and the junkyard had dropped from 8 to 6.5 cents! The scrap yard has dropped to 7 now and said it will be lower next week! One of the other big scrap yards in town was still at 8 cents on cars, 7 cents on regular scrap shred. You have to remove fluids, tank, wheels, battery etc there though.

NOT GOOD!!!!!!!! All other pricing has dropped as well but I didnt check for details.

So much for the bump we usually get this time of year. I just checked with the yard I normally go to, and it dropped from $160 ton to $115 ton. Not good. Probably will not get a bump until the economy starts picking up in China and the demand rises there.

I thought China was slowing down its economy. Could there only be hope that India fills in to drive our scrap prices up?

When I say 7 cents for steel, that is like anything. A vacuum cleaner, ac unit, lawn equipment, anything. Including the plastic, tires, etc... I dont have to break it down for steel shred. Everything else yes. But steel, no.

    $5.00/100# In Virginia.
I'm still unsure what caused the sudden price drop?
Can someone fill me in if they know please?!
Last week I was getting $8.00/100#, January 30 2015 price dropped to $5.00/100#!

Does anyone know if it's gonna go back up anytime soon, or estimated time it will be this low?
