Just got 140 today for UP.
Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is.
We have camera's, sensors, and alarms. I have real life video of the sight on my smart phone and when an alarm goes off can set any camera to start recording. The number of cameras and sensors cannot be disclosed, but a bird, raccoon, or anything else in the building will set it off. A security company refused the job because of the danger it presented for it's employees. We have a trailer set up on site for a 24 hr. security person. Any other ideas anyone can submit short of me with an AR on sight would be appreciated. That is when I would go back to the prairie or mountains where I can use it legally.
local yard top tier prices today
#1 prep 232 ton (2000 lb)
#1 unprep 210 ton (2000 lb)
light iron 178 ton
A 50 mile drive to Albany would probably get me an additional 70 a ton
those are roughly the prices i am getting. i saw a price sheet for one yard in Albany, but can't find it now. it was about $40 more per short ton. the prices were in long tons. Thier list prices for non ferrous were the same or lower than my local yard and that's before using my frequent flier miles.
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.
Matt,
If the other yard your referring to is the new guy at the Port (has 18 yards thruout ny, pa) then yes, his prices are considerably higher. Light iron over the last 8 months has been between 241 and 275 a gross ton. Those are prices for anyone off the street.
Unprepared in Mn is 160-170. Cars 150
Here is just a thought.
Since you will be generating a lot of scrap on this project, why not get a broker and sell direct to the mill ? This way you eliminate the middle man (the scrap buyer or yard ) I have done this in the past and a broker will work with as little as 100 ton a month. Just home from work and thought id pass this on
Thank you for the insight. I have had brokers bid the project, including major mills and refineries using the local resources to provide quotes. We have had scrap yards team up to use their combined resources to provide quotes. This has been a major learning experience for us and the learning curve continues to climb the more we are into it.
We are getting more than double the prepared rate from local yards with pick up as is, where they have to sort. In addition, non ferrous is sold to a separate company based on futures markets. To summarize, the numerous ways to make money in the scrap metal market is unbelievable until you have this type of opportunity. No I am not an expert, just a student.
Dont take this the wrong way,but I will let you in on a little trick to make the prices go up. (1) buy yourself a little gold star of david to hang around your neck or (2) (what I did) buy yourself a huge gold masons ring. You will find either way the price will go up. Again, just one of the tricks in the scrap business
