This allows the aircraft to sit for long periods without being exposed to water which promotes rust. Even when it does rain, the heat dries up the water quickly. It is a very efficient storage climate for aircraft. Again, these aircraft are not scrap. They are stored in case we ever go to war with another country that has a military that can actually compete with ours. Examples: Russia, China, North Korea
While not all of them are scrap some of them are. I lived there to, an used to go see them all the time through the fence.lol.

Some are beyond useful an really really old. It was one of my favorite things about Tucson. I'm glad they don't scrap them, they got some old ass stuff in there, that would be lost forever other then a picture if they scrapped them.
From the wiki on DMAFB
With the end of the war, operations at the base came to a virtual standstill.
It was then the base was selected as a storage site for hundreds of decommissioned aircraft, with the activation of the 4105th Army Air Force Unit. The 4105th oversaw the storage of excess B-29s and C-47 "Gooney Birds."
Tucson's low humidity and alkali soil made it an ideal location for aircraft storage and preservation, awaiting cannibalization or possible reuse — a mission that has continued to this day.

So yea...there's your reason why they are stored there. Last part I quoted, in bold. An some are decommissioned an will never see another flight.
Still a cool place to check out.
Just for those of you who've never been there, there's a couple shots of some of the jets an planes there. From WW2 an on there are a lot!
**** it I miss Tucson. Oh well..I got a sandbar an a ocean to love now I guess instead of desert an cacti.
Sirscrapalot - What most people don't understand is that UFOs are on a cosmic tourist route. That's why they're always seen in Arizona, Scotland, and New Mexico. Another thing to consider is that all three of those destinations are good places to play golf. So there's possibly some connection between aliens and golf. - Alice Copper
