$0.075/# this morning for light iron. i used to get 2 cents more on fridges. oh well. i guess the price of gas is going down with it, so it just means more leg work for the same money, but as everyone else commented, the competition will drop and i can have more work.

i would hold my steel if i had the space for it, but i can really only stockpile non-ferrous with my space limitations.
i'll ride it out as long as it takes and i'll still take my $7.50/100#. whatever

Steel at my yards have been at 200 per ton sence last summer. The only thing that droped is copper. I remember when steel was 1.00 per hundred and that was only about 7 or 8 years ago. I just keep scrapping and make what I can and be gratefull for it.

Check price each morning is always safe This will lead to more product up for grabs and price of fuel will drop so cost less to get product to market . I heard there was a time steel was .1 or .2 per pound fuel was probably $ 1.25 a gal and service stations were happy if you would take the steel out of the garages for free. I feel it is easy to get spoiled by this current market which is still great . Sellers of mettle are a part of the true economic flow the mettle market takes care of its own.

Tin went from 285/ton to 200 here in Indiana in a matter of days. Everything has dropped 10-30% in value.

I'm glad things are dropping, honestly. Like someone has said, this will weed out the crack heads, and "weekend warriors" as i call them.

I remember when tin was $30 a ton. I'm not too worried about this situation.

At my yard we dropped our prices $50 a ton since May. From all the literature I have been reading I really think that we have another $20-$30 to drop before we hit the proverbial bottom. Just a heads up for all of y'all that might be thinking about holding out for a higher price.

This could affect my decisions of what to stop for to pick up. Steel may not be worth the loss of momentum, weight in my trailer, and fuel to take a heavy load to the yard.

When I first started out I would pass up steel as it paid only .05 a pound. When looking back last year steel was 55% of my total cash and 87% of my total weight!
