Need help identifying block of solder

    Hey guys,

I have an old block of what I believe to be lead based solder that is stamped with the name "MOORE" that I found under an old building about 12 years ago when I was working as an electrician's apprentice. I held on to it over the years because I thought it was rather intriguing and unique. At the time that I found it, I really had no idea of what it was, and an old plumber was the one who told me that it looked like a block of lead solder that they used for plumbing work many decades ago before environmental regulations banned it. Below are links to front and side view pictures of the thing with my hand beside it for a size reference. The photos are blurry, but if you squint, you can see MOORE imprinted on the top of the thing. I've done research online and can't find any reference to the name Moore in relation to any brand of plumbing or solder products.

Can any of the old-timers on this forum help me identify this thing, fill me in on what exactly it was used for, and tell me if it has any value other than being a five pound hunk of scrap?
