I've learned these things through asking questions and some frustration/making mistakes. Mario is great, and I will NOT be taking my scrap anywhere else. But it took some time and pain to learn how to work the best way. And I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I believe most of the answers are in this thread. But surely, a new person isn't expected to read 60+ pages of reviews before the first shipment (90% are just great job with no new information).
Lol, even though I've read tons of threads, when I sort the ONLY thing I AM sure about is motherboards. I can't tell a small socket from a large socket and heck, they might consider something a MB that never came out of a computer tower! So I put all the MB's in one box, finger cards in another and covered with layer of newspaper and put the bagged items on top of those. another box held the rest of the ''I don't have a friggin clue how or what these are considered I just know they aren't low grade'' lmao.

**Another great transaction - shipment went out Monday, was received Tuesday am and processed by Wednesday. That might have been the fastest one yet!! Thanks again Mario and crew!!

I usually sort by the IC chips on the board. The more surface they cover on the board, quantity of ICs, etc. Seems to work out well. I'm planning to make a trip out that way next week for a hands-on education. I'll probably lose out financially (gas vs. postage) but I'm looking more for the educational aspect.

I do mostly pc towers and desktops because they're the easiest things to deal with in regards to recycling the whole thing.

If you look they'll give you all kinds of little clues as to the age of the machine. Pull the cd/dvd and there's usually a date of manufacture. The hard drives oftentimes have a date as well. You can go by the little sticker on the front. It might say windows 98, win me, xp, vista, or 7. You can look at the ram chips. If they have silver/tin fingers they're fairly old. If they have gold fingers and are pc-100 they are a little newer. A lot of the middle aged machines are pc-3200 through pc-6400.

You can look at the heat sink and fan sitting on top of the processor. As a rough rule of thumb it's small socket if it's got a big heat sink. Sometimes there's a date of manufacture on the processor itself.

I remember back when i bought my first PC. It was probably sometime in the mid to late 80's and cost over 1,600 $. The reason they were so expensive back then was because they had more precious metals in them. As the years went by the manufacturers got really good at building a better machine at lower cost. Part of the reason for the lower cost is that there's much less precious metal used to make them. That means less to salvage when they get scrapped out.

In a very broad way the machines made before 2001 are apt to have more goodies inside.

Great transaction with Mario...mailed it off and when I looked at the payout slip, got higher price per pound than my calculation on some of the server boards...can't ask for more than that! 47.3 pounds of stuff (granted higher paying stuff, but still)...after shipping of $22.24, net was $233.10. Doesn't suck! more stuff coming to him soon!

If you're sure you have the right company, did you try the customer service chat on their website cashforcomputerscrap.com ? You're emailing them, not just private messaging them on this forum? I've never had an issue getting them to answer my email. Also on the website, you can login and see if they have processed your shipment yet. It will say whether they issued payment or not, perhaps they haven't gotten to your load yet?

I think you have the wrong company. Double check the name and post the email address you sent the msgs to.

i sent a PM to ewasted
then an email to his email address: info@cashforcomputerscrap.com
but have not received a reply yet
i even went to his site & sent a msg through the online feedback form
but just got the auto reply saying they will contact me soon etc

how long shoud it take for him to reply?

i have a small amount of CPU's etc that i want to post to him- he can look at it & pay me what its worth
its not much- but after postage, i would still earn something

im going to post it from South Africa

theres just one guy in SA whos doing ewaste & he is based in Cape Town(about 1200 km's away) but his rates are less than half what ewasted pays
so therefore i want to do this

    any advice?

Ya, they work normal business hours and not 24 hours a day. (even tho it probably feels like it)
They will get back to you as soon as possible.

Mario an crew are good folks. Some times it does take a little bit for them to reply by email.

ive had several seamless transactions with ewasted....i have never had a bit of trouble out of his company....as mentioned above they work normal business hours, they cant be got a hold of after 4 pm on Friday until the following Monday, even on emails or online chat.......i have always had good luck with using there online chat feature...after i discovered the online chat i don't even bother sending messages or emails any more......
sometimes mistakes happen, rather it be human error, or just plain bad timing or luck with the way the mail runs...i once mailed a package flat rate priority thAt was going less than 100 miles from me,,,it took 2.5 weeks to get there....you just never know what will happen...

    do you remove these?

Its the weekend and CFCS is closed so I'm asking here. Do you as a seller remove these 2 items from your finger cards? The speaker and the square thing next to it. It looks like a mini transformer to me. Both are soldered on.

Well after 3 separate shipments, nothing but great reviews. Always received more than I figured. Just working with them to clarify a shipping price issue. Supper way to do business, Quote, Click, Pack, Ship, Paid. Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I had enough to take drive out there.

Shipping weight issue resolved. apparently they are working soo hard, and we all re sending them so much stuff, that they just forgot to subtract the pallet they weighted my shipment on. Accidents happen.

By no means is there any reason to talk bad.

    Keep up the excellent work.!!!!!!!!!
Extreme pleasure to do business with!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My rule of thumb is if it is held on with screws or clips it comes off if it is soldered on I leave it alone. JM$.02
