Two new items added to the list. The first item is wireless handheld keyboard laser scanners w/o battery. While we have been buying them for a while I noticed it was time to add them to this list. The second item is SMD Tantalum Capacitors. We have had a few inquiries from our e-waste customers over the years as to if we were ever going to buy tantalum. We thought why not give it a try and we felt the SMD capacitors would be a good starting point.
Updated Pricing... Copper is up. We have also added two new categories to our list. High Grade Peripheral Board as well as Low Grade Peripheral Board.
So does this mean that boardsort now buys the SMD capacitors I don't see it on their website

If they have gold fingers attached to them we would purchase them at the power supply with wire price. If they don't have gold fingers then we would buy them as power supply w/o Wire.

Looking at other threads we noticed a debate going on with hard drives and whether or not it is practical to remove the boards from them vs. selling the drive with board still attached. So out of curiosity we decided to do a breakdown of CD Drives as to whether or not it is worth it to remove the boards. We decided to use 60 CD Drives as our example. At .20/lb. for drives with the board still attached the only practical way to benefit from that number is if one has a few hundred pounds of them and brings them directly to us as any shipping costs from that amount will leave a seller deep in the red. The total weight for the 60 drives was 88.90 pounds and at .20/lb. that total value is $17.78. With a guess shipping would be closer to $50 with that type of weight. After we removed the boards we ended up with 4.29 pounds of CD Board. At $5.00/lb. the boards alone have a value of $21.45. One can then take the remaining 84.61 pounds of gutted CD Drives to their local scrap yard where they can dump them off as shred steel which should be give or take around .10/lb. with current market conditions. To mail 4.29 pounds of board will be a lot cheaper than almost 90 pounds of drives especially if they are already working on a box with other items to ship out. Also depending on where one is located regional shipping with USPS has some very cost effective options. Does anybody have any similar experiences they are willing to share?
With prices being what they are I'm breaking down everything obviously more work and storage but the paydays are nice
More specifically with this, to maximize returns from CD/DVD drives, breakdown all that are not the most recent generation of SATA drives. You'll still come out ahead with the tiny SATA boards but *barely* if you have the option to sell locally for any drive price over .15. If you can get a good Al Brkg price, the aluminum shell laptop drives are between 30-50% aluminum which is sometimes more than CD/DVD drive price, especially since they are more of a chore for disassembly.Quote:

Metals market is continuing its downward trend. Updated prices for red metals. Also a new category added - Processed Clean Aluminum Copper Heatsinks. These will be purchased at .55/lb. Once the majority of the copper has been removed we are unable to sell them at the normal rate.

Anybody else notice palladium dipping down little by little over the past couple months? I want to think it will shoot back up again. The $64,000 question then becomes when? Any thoughts?

It looks like Palladium is near a five year low after adjusting for currency inflation.
The question is why ?
1: Maybe Russia is liquidating it's reserves in order offset losses due to economic sanctions and the cost of the war in Ukraine. That would follow what alloy was saying. Increasing supply on the open market would lower prices.
2: Industrial demand for palladium to be used in catalytic converters may be off. The global powers that be are making a pretty hard push for the transition to EV's in order to slow climate change. We're in the early phases of that technology shift ... but they are coming regardless of what any of us think.
As ICE powered vehicles become obsolete ... so won't catalytic converters. There won't be nearly as much demand for palladium 10 - 20 years from now.
Anyhow ... significantly less demand would exert considerable downward pressure in the price per ounce.
Just a few thoughts and impressions. Can't honestly say that i know what i'm talking about.

Given our particular situation here in Maine .... hydrogen fueled ICE vehicles would make sense. Our electrical grid is near capacity and they are adding heat pumps like crazy. Deployment of EV's is only a fraction of what our state government is mandating. Most of are just working folks that don't make a lot. The EV's are out of our price range. The summer people from neighboring states here in NewEngland are driving them though. A few years ago ... EV's were an oddity. I see them every day now.Quote:

Funny how things are being manipulated. The dollar is worthless the Canadian dollar even more so precious metals should be thru the roof but the powers that be will manipulate things to avoid a panic. Palladium is more used in industry so demand may be down but I don't understand the EV craze seems like it may be cleaner but I don't think our infrastructure can handle it.
Along highway 45 just before the Sandy Lake turn off, a Hybrid caught fire about five years ago, the insurance company most likely paid the owner for his/her loss. But the fact remains the burnt out Hybrid remains as an abandoned vehicle on a municipal lot.
Who is responsible for its removal, precious owner or the insurance company, this piece of toxic waste should be removed.

Silver is climbing little by little. It's getting close to $25/oz. For all the talk about how silver is going to take off like a rocket, I think copper is going to take off next. I think copper will hit $5.00/lb. before silver hits $30/oz. Thoughts?
