etack,
Just started to collect them. Do you want them with coating chipped off. Do you buy? "PALLADIUM & SILVER MONOLITHIC CAPACITORS". How about Tantalum chips? Some Tantalum capacitors will blow up like a firecrackers if you hook polarities wrong. Others smoke and catch on fire. Took a few electronics classes a while back.

here's some very good info here
Basic Electricity and Electronics: TANTALUM ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS
You can leave the coating on. If you remove it it contains trace amounts of Ag. I do not buy MLCC as you never know what you get till they are processed. I do toll refine them if you have enough and don't mind a wait, they take time to do. I don't know about Tantalum IC chips but if mean SMD yellow and black yes I do.

Etack,
Thanks for your patience with all the questions. I think I am more confused now than when this started. I do know this though. Cutting them off the boards sounds like a good job for my little brother the next time he whines about cut hands or sore arms. :)
No problem.
I remove mine from boards when I take the battery off. It takes no time at all.
I just Updated my blog with new pics and descriptions of the Tantalum caps.
Buying Tantalum Capacitors
Eric
hello, ive read this whole post and done about three evenings reading on the internet and ive saw all the pictures.its very helpful.my question is are they always marked with a plus sign and what boards can you tell me should more than likley have them .also are there boards that will almost never have them.ive looked over all my crt boards, vcr, dvd, and printer boards i see alot that look like the pics but they dont have a pluss marking on any of them.thank you for your time and i appreciate any info on this
Eric did you get my email?
Love the Pictures, this helps alot- just got alot of 1940/50 electronics in ad wanting to strip them off the boards
Eric,
Will the boards also be marked + where a tantalum capacitor is soldered on?. I have pulled some from older boards that look like what you have pictured here. Boards and TA capacitor were marked with a +. Can you confirm the board markings ?, might make it easier to confirm and narrow down the TA caps. I know I have seen aluminum can capacitors and other components marked with a + as were the boards that they were soldered to.
It's not always going to be just for Ta caps. its best to just be able to ID them by site.
If you need any help I will be able to help email me pics to my email eric@recycletantalumcapacitors.com and I will tell you what are Ta caps.

have to say by far this post is the most informational i have seen on here in helping to id and sort the best way possible which now that I understand and have just spent 30min doing a little bit more research and can say with all this I can possible spot a 80% first find to save time and make some good extra money with these as something to save thanks
Thanks here to serve. check out my blog post too Buying Tantalum Capacitors for more pics and diferent types.

Hello. Are you interested to buy from me with my shipping costs. Sent to your anode. I'll send you an email with a picture and more questions.
I have a line on an auction lot that lists 75000 Ta capacitors. They appear to still be on the paper (?) strips they come on. Would you rather have them still on the paper tape for possible re-sale? Or off the tape for easier recycling weigh-out?
THANKS!
i have a spool that has 10,000 mlcc caps on it, does not look like its worth the labor to pull them off, rather sell as is
I was wondering if you would do a pay on sort thing if I'd shave some boards and send the material?
Edited my post because the post I was referring to has been deleted.
I've done business with Eric a couple of times and really appreciated all of his work.
