CPU question
maybe a stupid question, but I am uneducated on the "higher grade" cpu's and just starting to get my hands on them.
yesterday I got a AMD AM486 DX4-100. I'm not sure if it goes with the AMD ceramic, or the intel 486?? it has a pretty gold cap.

Thanks!

is it a 100 mhz ? looks like an older style cpu, I haven't had much experience with AMDs tho, but if it's a 100 mhz, definitely an older one

If im not mistaking all 386 and 486 go in same pile. If I am mistakin one of the biger buyers will correct me.

It came out of an old computer. How do I know the mhz? I don't see mhz anywhere on the back but here's all the #'s: am486 dx4-100 a80486dx4=100nv8t b 9530gpk t... that would be great if it goes with the 486. my confusion was that it technically looks like an amd ceramic but it has a gold cap...

ok and also along the same lines, I have a pentium 486 that appears to be soldered to a green fiber backing... no heatsink. Is this one also a 486? if these two together are the $!33 per pound then I am one happy kid!!

Red, if it is an AMD 486 it goes in with the Intel 386/486 chips. They are going for around 130.00/lb right now.

hey red the dx4-100 is the 100mhz. The green fiber 486 im not sure what pile they go in to be honist.

I found a odd old chip, its a standard long flat rectangular black IC with legs each side, Its a 3 piece IC body, sorta ceramic like slabs with a glue in between. Sandwich like.
Its got this written on it.
IV4836 IX @IGT
10c LH/LL Link
88.43% $400
Theres another chip that came with it,
P8032 AH
l4179779
Intel 1980
I'm just interested because it sez {$400}.... & {88.43%}
Makes me think its a limited run, individually tested & worth a bit... hopefully. The {LH/LL} link bits interesting too.

photos might help. I've seen lots of labels that were printed by computer shops/stores

the "sandwich" one sounds like the gold eprom that Dee was walking about. if it has a little window under the sticker on top it is worth a bit in gold refining. Last I heard was somewhere around $60 per #? not sure what it's at now...
Ewasted confirmed that the am486 goes in with the intel 486 because it's ceramic, but the green fiber 486 does not... win some lose some!
