Wire granulation
Hey everyone!
I have worked at my family's recycling yard since high school and am now taking over the family business. I want to focus more on scrap metal versus the plastic and cans we purchase now. We currently buy various insulated wire at our locations, and I am thinking we could squeeze out another 10-15 percent on that product if we granulate it. Does anyone have any experience with wire granulation? Is it worth my time to try and get contracts from construction and utility companies?
Appreciate any feedback.

Hi Jonathan and welcome to the forum from Las Vegas! Your average spreads for granulating wire should get you about 20% more (pre-chopping costs) if you're buying at commercial pricing and around 35% more if you're buying at general public pricing. It is of course worth it to try to get public utility and construction contracts. Whether that wire from them is choppable for you depends on the granulator set-up.
