Florida newbie here!

Hey there all! I'm Andy and i've just newly joined the Scrap Metal Forum community. Gotta say, i've trolled off and on for about a year just reading bits and pieces of others' posts and have already gained a wealth of insights on various topics. That's what made me decide to bite the bullet and simply sign up. I've broken down a number of items but have gotten proficient lately with dehumidifiers (yes, and have made sure to have all refrigerants properly removed first). While I have a sales/marketing background, I look forward to the scrapping knowledge that I'll gain through the invaluable guidance and experience from those already here.

Welcome from CT ! My 2 cents. It sounds like you already did some homework... go get started and see what you've learned , then build on it.
You can always refer back to the forum for answers to a great deal of your questions. Most of the guys here have "been there, done that ..."
so you don't have to re- invent the wheel.
What areas are you most interested in ? E waste ? Scrap metals ? A specialty perhaps ? Do tell.

Thanks for the .02 cents! Hey, I MUST be a scrapper because i'll certainly still stop and pick up a penny or two :cool:. Anyway, I'm in full agreement with you about "those wheels"! I've carved out a couple in my time and to be honest, it's a **** good deal easier to use those wheels that others have labored in refining. To be honest, I've only recently even gotten into the whole "scrap thing". In fact, unlike a lot of other scrappers I don't actually seek out additional scrap but am actually simply getting into it as a by-product of all the leftover waste I found myself to be left with. It's a bit of a winded story but essentially I buy, repair, sell (and might soon even rent?) dehumidifiers. That said, I target certain older units which seems to have been built far more superior.... many of which were manufactured using R22 as a refrigerant. I presently have the Freon properly evacuated by an EPA approved vendor, I can see a potential revenue stream as well from my own eventual endeavor to recover this increasingly rare and costly gas. At this point, I've even gone out of state to purchase a few Frigidaire and Soleus Air dehumidifiers from others (if I can master some super cheap air and car rental arrangements). Now, if I could only find a way to make money from all the heavy gauge plastic that I continually collect from these things?!! As for the E-scrap, I've just now started collecting the small boards from these things. Up to know I've simply tossed them. From this site however, I've read that a couple resources might exist to ship/sell those small circuit boards. At this point, i've only recently begun to reap the benefits of breaking down and selling the scrap motors, Compressors, copper, wire, etc. In fact, I'm going on a small road-trip down to S. Florida and am taking a load of scrap with me just to check out the "pay-out" of a yard down there that supposedly pays nearly double for motors and sealed units.

You reminded me of a funny story. A lifetime ago I was the service manager in a local shop. All the guys know I was cheap( thrifty) and would stop to pick up a penny if I saw one. they thought it was funny to pitch pennies my way on occasion. Paid for my hot tub ! Anyway one time they pitched a nickle my way . I saw it on the floor and snatched it up quick. At that moment my thumb and finger were starting to burn - hell- they heated that sucker up with the blue tip before they tossed is so it was pretty hot when I picked it up. I had Jefferson monument branded on my thumb . Let the fun begin- someday I'll tell the story of how I got my "revenge" . We were always playing practical jokes on one another.

OMG! LOL. So, you know i've gotta ask..... has our nation's brand withstood the test of time, or finally go away??

Oh hahaha yea it was gone in a a few days- when you work with your hands all day you wear your skin away, it gets thick and cracked sometimes and grows new sometimes.

How's it goin' neighbor! Yeah, i'd guess you could say there's a good deal more junk here LOL, though I'd likely prefer being near the waters' edge. I guess you could say the grass is always "rustier" on the other side.

Heh, being closer to the water is pretty nice. Curbco seems a bit thin here but that's proably because I'm not looking hard enough.
