The Craigslist gods were good today!

Was just finishing up a drop at a yard in North Las Vegas when I caught an ad on the Craigslist free section right away and BOOM! Neither runs at the moment but I should be able to fix that within a week or two depending on the parts and I have the titles for both. Guy was moving this evening and only taking his three running bikes with him. Especially excited about the 1983 Shadow. That's a sweet bike! It has been a really, really good month for me on Craigslist! Kinda impossibly good [looks around cautiously for a couple of shoes dropping]!

The Shadow is a Honda correct? If so it should be worth spending the time and some money on. They tend to be reliable. One thing about motorcycles and other small engines I have learned in the last few years is their engines do not like the alcohol in our gasoline.

My friend who currently has two bikes he bought new has 122000 miles on his Honda and 90k+ on his Kawasaki says "Sea Foam" added to the tank helps alot. He also tries to fill up at gas stations that sell gas without alcohol. More pictures please. 73, Mike

Yup! A Honda. My buddy has an auto shop he lets me work at sometimes. I'll post some more pictures tomorrow when I take them over and start working on them. I'm hoping to put less than $1000 into them both combined. We'll see how realistic that is when I get them off the truck and start digging in. But the Shadow when running I should be able to turn around for a good price! And thanks for the tip about the gas. I've worked on a couple of bikes but never owned one so will be careful on how I feed it.

Also youtube can be your friend just watch several videos on any subject so you will be able to decide which are good. 73, Mike

That's incredible. Our craigslist mostly has tube tvs and old pallets for free. Very happy for you, even if I am a bit jealous ;)

I think it's in part because it's such a transient town and in part because there is a constant cycle of these hotels and casinos reinventing themselves for marketing purposes. Wonder if tourist towns generally have such cultures of disposability or if that is something more local here...

Mike I meant to post these before. You can see from these that there is a lot more work to be done to get them running than I expected. The Shadow has a carburetor in a box that came with it so it's not missing but does not look functioning, nor does the one on the SBX. There's a lot more beyond that and too much to be done and still expect to sell them for a price difference more than selling them as is. I put them on craigslist as project/parts bikes and will see what comes of it. Worse case scenario I break them down to part out and scrap which would be fun itself.

An yes, the tourist/transient thing happens in other tourist spots. My sandbar is the same during the summer. At the end of it one can find a lot of very nice bicycles that can be resold with a little tlc. Tourists leave all kinds of crazy stuff. Buy $20 boogie board, then toss it in the trash later that day or a couple weeks later cause the kids didn't like it, the ocean was rough, etc. Boggles my mind. While I don't see many motorcycles given away for free here, we see it with boats, trailers, an a few other things.

Ah well..the tourist/transient leaves it...I profit or have a new toy to enjoy. Whatever works.

Having been to Vegas I'm not surprised to see a find like this.

At a hotel I worked at our mental challenged dishwasher saw somebody toss a bag into the trash can by the back dock. He comes into the kitchen holding a 4' dildo cracking up running around with it. There was a bunch of stuff in the bag. He did work in the break room so I made sure he washed his hands...

I hear you on this. I've spent a lot of time this last month building, with meanginful success, scrap clientele from mechanics and bicycle shops mostly (can't shoot higher than this until I get my business license, Nevada is pretty strict). But all the best stuff from a money perspective has come from what people were giving away, mostly on craigslist. These bikes, a small warehouse of serviceable retail shelving units (plus all the scrap in it), 100+ 14lb rolls of industrial welding wire and so much more. And that is just June and it paid for July & August's rent. Now if only scrap pirces were better here....I currently get $70/ton for tin, and that's after getting a bump for bringing in so much so often!
