I'm curious if anybody here has the recovery percentage in the clean coils (the ones that have the C-shaped cu cut off and the steel removed (see image below))?
I was given several window units but without receipt I can only sell them as shred.
Once I get a good scale I'll do the numbers and post.
Curious if it's worth the effort to liberate the cu from inside.
Also, any methods to liberate the cu?

I've never scrapped an ac unit but don't you need someone to recover the refrigerant first?
Sure. But I'm assuming they're dry. They're rather rusted and corroded.
Are they not able to be sold like they are in the pictures? If so, is it because it once contained Freon?
Since they are cleaned up, could they be sold as car Ali/Cu radiators?
We don't have such harsh regulations here in NZ about Freon etc. They just get classed as Ali/Cu rads @ NZ$2.75/Kg. (US$2.15/Kg)

What happens if you cut into one of those and get sprayed in the face.
Clean AC coils pays much better than dirty. And no way would I sell them as shred. And lots of info here on how to get the copper out can be found on our web site. Also Freon issues listed as well.
Yes do what Hobo Finds has suggested. You may find more ways to make money while reading the old and current threads. There's even a great manual on getting your license for handling refrigerant. Truly, there an amazing amount of usable/profitable information here on the forum. 73 Mike
not worth breakig them down if the freon isn't removed. dont need to be breathing that crap in look for another buyer with a price for complete ac's. ive never seen a drained window unit.

Not in Georgia or Florida that I know of. You have to have a receipt or a contractors' license to sell even the clean coins.
Assuming (making an ass out of u and ming) isn't always bad. The phrase "better safe than sorry comes to mind. ;)
You may discover that getting your refrigerant recovery license will qualify to sell these items. Also being equipped to recover and resell the refrigerant might be a great addition to your business.Quote:

It was definitely you make an "ass out of you and me". Felix had a blackboard in the courtroom and as he said "when you assume" with a heavy emphasis on the first syllable, he wrote out the letters A S S, which he circled, then the U, which I think he circled, then the M E, which I think he also circled. And IIRC, the court case was not about a traffic ticket, but allegedly scalping tickets to some event (that I don't remember.)
Yes, Oscar and Felix were arrested for scalping a ticket to a Broadway play, since Oscar couldn't get a date. It was the episode called "My Strife in Court," first aired on February 16, 1973.
When I first heard of, it was "To assume makes a 'ass out of you in front of me" different version.
