Insulation Paper
Hi All,
I am a newbie to scrapping. So far I have been doing mostly copper wire stripping. My question is...What is the white paper substance that falls apart as I am dismantling wires sometimes? The few times I have encountered this I was stripping orange extension power cords. The reason I ask, is that this material as ist falls apart gets on my hands and makes them itch and I am starting to worry that it could be asbestos. I know they use paper products as an wire insulator sometimes because it is a poor conductor. How do I know if it is asbestos?

I'm no expert on the subject but I feel like chiming in. Asbestos is bad there is no question about that but it is long term exposure to it that will get you. You could eat an asbestos sandwich if you wanted to. Sure you might throw up but that's about it. Just like cigarettes, smoke one here and there and you probably will not get cancer. Smoke twenty a day for ten years and you're are likely to have problems. Good luck
Don't eat asbestos
