Other Finds
I just started scrapping less than a few weeks ago after cleaning out someone's garage and when I went to the dump to trash some leftovers I noticed people leaving stuff out next to the dumpster for the taking. Usually it's nicer stuff that people hate to throw out. I've scored some good stuff in a short time so far such as a boxing bag I sold for 20 bucks, gas cans sold for 5, antique gas can for 10 and even an awesome painting I'm going to get appraised.
Is this common at recycling centers/dumps in towns to leave stuff on the side of dumpsters that you can take or am I just lucky at my place?

No its not unusual since people are too lazy, unknowledgeable, or just feel it is below them to bring something to a scrap yard. What I would do is make sure its ok to remove scrap from a town dump since the town will have it hauled to a scrap yard and get paid for it.

Yeah im not talking about scrap metal cause those greedy townpeople hog it all from themselves now at the dump and you cant take any scrap stuff not even stuff by the scrap container, but people leave random items outside the main dumpster that you can take if you want and ive been scoring lots of free items that way, as long as its not in the dumpster you can take it. Just wondering if this is common practice at other town dumps or if the people in my town just really hate chucking stuff.

No, it happens alot. If you can get it then grab it.

Yeah I keep my eyes open now. Some kids next to me trashed a fire pit, I snatched that up washed it and sold it for 15 bucks in a matter of days!
