Does anyone else have a "You Pull It" auto parts shop in their general area that buys cars in any condition for the parts? I have one or two in my county and even though I don't personally scrap autos, it seems like the auto shops would kill all minor auto scrapping because they advertise that they pay much more than a scrapper can offer. Has anyone encountered this problem?
I don't junk autos because I would have to go to far to take care of them. Plus I don't have time, storage, or the means to chop them up. But we do have a junk yard here in town for autos that if you need something, you can go look to see if they have it, and then you pull it out unless you don't mind paying the $20 fee they charge to do it.
Junk cars if you can find them is where the money is.
Well I finally got a vehicle...without a title. Sure didn't intend for it to be that way, but the seller is being a problem and saying things that aren't true. Such as claiming she applied for a title, yet when I contacted the state, no paperwork had been filed. I already paid and filled out a bill of sale so as far as I am concerned I am the owner of it.
Since I don't want to deal with her any more, I think I will cut it up.
Here's to hoping I can cut it up enough to get it past Pacific, since they're pretty anal about titles.
I forgot where I was when I wrote all that. To the OP, around here I haven't noticed it to be an issue. One yard advertises they pay up to $500 ($500 trucks/$300 cars) and I have been buying them for $100 to $200.
Not sure why. Maybe they don't see or hear the tv/radio commercials. Maybe they prefer to deal with an individual instead of a big, scary, noisy scrap yard.
Iron prices killed the local parts yards long before they ever hurt us.
theres a junkyard about 10 miles further then my scrap place that pays 300$ for any complete car probly less then the scrap price most of the time
I went with a friend to sell a car to the u pullit. by the time they subtracted for dings and dents,etc etc there 75 turned into like 45.
When we were doing vehicles it never seemed to hurt even though there were 2 or the local parts yards claiming to pay more than scrap. When in reality they were paying less than scrap but making more.
I can tell you your gonna pay more for junk cars in a big city then out in the country. Because of salvage yards, you pull yards and scrap metal buyers/shredders. I go 50 miles out of town i can buy junk cars 1/2 price, so $50 in gas to go get one is not an issue.
Where do you think I take scrap cars? To the u-pull-it yard!

I am not sure if this law is applicable outside Colorado, but here if the vehicle has been "hydraulically crushed" then in the eyes of the law it can be scrapped without a title. Feasibly, this means that if you have a backhoe you can crush the roof with the bucket and then it can be scrapped.
usually you have to cut it in half, i dont think just crushing the roof in is going to fly
