Selling auto cores
So there's a lot of threads on maximizing the value of a scrap car but I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for.
I've got an old Mercedes diesel car. Engine, auto trans and radiator are pulled and sitting outside the car and no good for resale as working parts. The engine is mostly undressed with alternator and starter and whatnot sitting off to the side too.
My question is would a core buyer be interested in these old parts and will they give me more than scrap value? How can I find a core buyer? Yellow pages doesn't turn up much but maybe I'm searching wrong.
Or should I open up the alternator and separate the copper and everything?
Or should they go as electric motors and would that mean they go by weight or by the piece? The starter seems huge and heavy...
I plan to pull any aluminum off of the block, then scrap the block as what? should I drop the block back into the car body and take it in like that or keep the block and trans out and scrap them separate?
I plan to pull a few parts that I think I can sell on the Mercedes forums but most of it will have to go to a recycler / core buyer. I've got plenty of time and like I said it's mostly taken apart already so I'm trying to figure out what I should do next.
Thanks SMF

I had a bunch of old alternators and asked at a place that (supposedly) rebuilds them, the guy said he gets most of his now from China, said it was about his only source anymore, scrap!
I had a couple of old standard trannys I was wanting to try and place, but no luck. I had other parts too, heads, manifolds, etc, and called an old junkyard, he said he only did body repair now, and didn't know of anyone who might be interested in any of it. I live in a sparsely populated area, and didn't really know of many choices, so I scrapped it, trannys and all. Sad part was two days later I went through town in a way I seldom go, and saw a transmission shop there

the trick to finding core buyers is to guy where a high concentration of junkyards are
most radiator /alternator shops are not willing to deal with scrappers because of the uneven flow of cores.
MOST is the key word here i do 14 cars a week that means 14 cores a weeks 56 a month and they know it if scrap is $5 a piece i got $7-$10 but i only go on the 1st of every month as not to bother the guy you may get shut down 20 times but ask 21
that not withstanding alot of core buyers are also short on buyes right now good luck to you my friend

thirdeyevision you may find the answer lies in the popularity of the car the cores were sourced from nobody cares if you have a core for a 81 chevette everyone wants cores for a 01 vette if that makes sense

what city you in? Orlando has a core buyer. I go there. Check the trade journal to the salvage yards. I have one here somewhere. They run ads in there. (Buyers.)

Alot of scrap yards will buy those, they need to be a core buyer. One yard I use will buy just about any thing you bring except e-waste. Scrap yards and core buyers all buy by the pound. Have you checked with your local scrap yard, they might even direct you to a core buyer.Where in florida do you live?

make friends with a mechanic, most places there are core buyers that visit garages

I sell my exhaust systems from the cat back to local muffler shops if there any good, i have a guy i outsource my tires to he takes all of the worn tires i cant sell and takes them off my hands for free, if there on alloy wheels he will break them down and return the wheels to me for $7 each, needless to say i now have accumulated 50 alloys all are clean aluminum/magnesium
make a list of what you have and shop it around to the local garages, they will usually buy parts if they are for a common newer vehicle, or late model as we call them

I was googling last night for core buyers in my area. You can probably find by doing the same.
