Was offered .25 cents/lb should I take it
Was offered .25 cents/lb should I take it
I get #2 insulated price which was $1.25 lb the last time I sold. That was with the ends cut off.
Iron Mike's say's $1.12
Really mabye I'll just take it in with my other copper next time and see
The yard I deal with normally does not take it at all. I have another yard to check with, its just building up for now, Mike.
Yeah the yard I took a sample of it to said they might give .10 cents a lb but really didn't want it....An individual who buys electronic scrap locally offered me this price
I mix all my wires I pull out of and around desktop computers, including power, a/v, ethernet/phone, ribbon with connectors cut off, wires cut off from desktop power supplies etc. Last time I got $.80/lb for the pile and it got labeled "insulated #3". I've never separating these into separate piles so don't know if I would have gotten less for just ribbon. Another buyer told me that to him ribbon is less valuable than #3.
well i get more than a dollar for all the rest of the wire...They consider it #2 insulated.....So I have a large box of this ribbon stuff left over....Isn't it funny how stuff is so different in each area
were getting .85 /# for it
im getting .66 a pound
Last time I brought it in mixed with #2 insulated got 1.25 lb for it all
My yard dosn't buy it and if I mix it in they will stand there and pull it all out. Another yard I deal with will pay .10 lb they call it data cable
#2 ins wire by me just got 1.10 lb for it in So. AZ
$1 # mixed with all my other ins wire here.
Maybe one of us should start buying it up and clean the ends off. What would be a fair price to pay considering your being offered .10 - .25 lb ??
I just took all my wire into the yard today.
Ribbon cable my yards pays 25% at $.57 a pound
Wires from inside the box and off the powersupply they call 38% and paid $.97 a pound
Cat 5 wire was 50% and paid $1.46 a pound
Seems like a toss up in each region....I went ahead and sold it I'm cleaning out my shed in hopes of getting another big load soon
Directrecycle, are you getting .85 locally? I am only getting .25 here and we are not far from each other.
#2 ins... .40 a lb
I put mine in with my #2 insulated and get a 1.00/lb.
I get .40 per # for ribbon. If I mix SMALL amounts in with my #2 insulated I get $1...
Ribbon is mixed wire. 80 cpp here.
Actually I strip mine. Is that wrong? It takes me a week with a razor by hand to get a pound. But it becomes #2 which sells more per pound than mixed. Peeps on here told me to break everything down cause I make mo money dat way.
I been thinking this same question. I've just threw them into one big barrel, and took them all together. I didn't even look at my last ticket to see what they counted them for. I've noticed post about cutting off the end, and different types, but haven't seen anything special on it. The white thin kind, and gold thin seems to be light, but not sure how to sort it yet, so I just toss it all in. Can't wait for some one to post pic's of the different types, and give some examples of what is worth something. The yards will get ya, if you don't know. My yard takes all my boards, and other electronic scrap. They pay fair prices, and it is only 30 minutes away. Whats crazy, is done of the city close by do, this place is in a small town, and help me sort as I go. Most of it I have sorted, but then we still go through it. Electronic scrap add's of for a good pay day. But you have to know. Still got a bunch of CRT's and old TV's available for someone to pick-up. Still intact and can be loaded with a forklift. For some reason my box stays full here, but not cause I have a lot of messages. If anyone is intrested in about 8 4x4 boxes (standard shipping recycling), of CRT's and old TV's, let me know. Got to move them, and will keep you in business as long as you can keep moving them. I just work with the other.
The ends off of ribbon cable still count along with other computer ends and sell for around $2. lb.Quote:

took some in on Friday. 1.20 here, with or without ends. they are grading it at 50% which seems pretty generous considering what it is. the price offered by a few of the e-buyers on here is much better than what I can get local on the ends, so saving them up for a rainy day pay. BroJer
when dealing in smaller lots you can mix the wires up and get a better price. Sending in larger loads of several thousands of lbs i dont believe you would get as much for the ribbon wire, especially since it goes out for recovery anyway. Our findings have been ribbon wire recovery to be around 20 to 25%
When you guys talk about price of ribbon wire, do you assume ends cut off? If you don't cut off the ends, can you get a better price? Can this price be so much higher that cutting the ends off and selling them as gold connectors would not be any more profitable?
I cut the larger connectors off the smaller one's I don't fool with
I put it with all my appliance wires/ insulated crap
I usually get 1.00 a pound in Westford MA
mix it, i get .90 per pound
yes that price is local for .85
I get wire .50-.60 per lb in Arizona
Some great info thanks
