Found this metal rod under an old deck on a tearout job.
Diameter 5/8"
Length 9"
Weight 1.4 lbs (this thing has some heft to it)
It broke in two when I dropped on a concrete slab. The interior structure is crystalline and it is harder heavier and more brittle than steel.
I'll post photos in a few minutes.

No sparks on the grinder, which barely touches it btw. Also heating with a propane torch does not produce any glow. I'm starting to wonder if it could be carbide?Quote:

I wondered about the tungsten coments and was thinking of all my dart throwing days.
