Ok I hate it when people "bash" me so I'll say it nicely. Search! Many of these things have been discussed, including some of my threads, see that little text box? It's a search bar. Use it.
Sorry, thanks for your help.
Ok now that you have learned to reseaRch I will tell you. Wait are these CPUs you speak of the whole computer or just the little chip inside called the CPU
Cuz it makes a difference
the whole tower, I guess the whole computer?
I have been taking them apart and separating the copper and alum
And putting the boards to the side
The computers?!?
Oh forget my last comment
You need to separate the CPU the ram the pci cards the hard drives the DVD drives the wire and cut off the ends and save them and the motherboard and the psu stripped apart. And copper and aluminum
A computer is worth 12 to 16 dollars in scrap value
these things that rewrapped in like hundreds of thin metal pieces with plastic and in the middle is the copper
just got this F-ing thing opened!!!
Can you post a picture?
jack pot, this is finally about to pay off, I hope. I stay at home with my 2 kids and try to do this when they are sleeping.
how do post a picture? I can text or email it to you.
Umm if you can try copy and paste.
Or email me at users8989@gmail.com
Just so ya know for all those privacy freaks that is a spambox, not my personal email
Great, just sent it.
Oh that is a copper transformer that appears to have an aluminum heatsink. Separate the copper then stick a magnet to the silver color stuff, if it doesn't stick it's aluminum, if it does stick put it in your shred pile
Hey thanks a bunch, what is the best way to get this metal around it off? What is the going price for shred metal, i am in Atlanta?
What about the red color?
Well for this shred steel you might get 7 cents a pound or maybe 11 cents. This is the easiest way to get the copper out. Hacksaw the copper sticking out from both ends, then put it in a vise and use a hammer and punch to knock the 2 pieces left in the holes. Then you don't have to deal with cutting apart steel.
I don't know about the red color. Stick a magnet to it.
What is the going rate of the copper and alum?
I hear the inside of a keyboard is worth something?
Yes but it takes many keyboards. Copper is $2 to 3 and aluminum is 50 cents. These rates are per lb
great thanks everyone!
what can i do if my recycling place does not take my circuit boards?

What do you think about this website for scraping p.c. boards, computer chips, motherboards etc. http://cashforelectronicscrapusa.com...tanding-value/
Thanks!
gin, you would be better off using one of the buyers on the forum...go to buyers and sellers section....check out ewasted and easyrecycles. Good luck. You need it with tryingtoscrap tutering you !!! jk lol
Hey thanks a bunch!
Ginj, if the transformers are really small and copper and you don't feel like taking them apart is worth your time you might be able to sell them as "motors" or some other copper bearing designation for around .25 cents a pound (depending on the yard). You can also sell Christmas tree lights for around that much.
They will rip you off, that's been well documented here on the forum!!Quote:
