My father in law gets a gun magazine delivered periodically to his house. I happened to be there this morning when the mail arrived. Was looking through it, and noticed some coupons from Harbor Freight.
They have a 4-1/2" Angle Grinder by Drill Master for sale for $10.
Anyone have any experience with this particular one?
It does say the grinder wheel is sold separately.
They also have a 5,000lb winch for $140 as well.
not sure about that but if you're looking a at winch for your trailer, I can vouch for the 9000 lb winch, out here in california there's coupons in the magazines for $250. Get at least a one year replacement plan for an extra $30 and you can take your winch back in 11 months and get another new one free no questions asked. For $10 you might as well try the grinder, if it breaks in less than a month you can get another one for free or just get your money back.
I'm planning on getting the same $9.99 angle grinder. I've never had a problem with thier corded power tools but I would pass on anything cordless from them. That's just from my experience.
the drill master one is pretty good, i had one till my dad dropped the garage door on it and broke it. now it use some $30 model from home depot he replaced it with.
$250 is not that bad of a price for a 9,000lb winch. Was that at Harbor Freight as well?Quote:

I've had 3 from HF. 1st one is still going strong after 5 years. I got another just like it and burnt it out in a few weeks, even used up all the brushes they included. Got another one with a paddle switch so it's easier to turn on when wearing gloves. I'm hard on it to where the wheel will stop at times, or work it to near max, getting it really hot and it keeps on working.
I have it but it's still in the box. No power in my storage unit to test it out.
I was planning on buying the $90 HF generator, but I was in there recently and someone was returning 2 of them that crapped out. Made me second guess them.
Does the storage unit have a light in it? If it's a light bulb, they make an adaptor so you can use the bulb and plug something in.Quote:

I should have clarified for incandescent. I haven't ever seen anything for a florescent. Not even sure how it would work on one of those.

You get what you pay for. $90.00 for a generator just sounds to good to be true. If you plan on using a gen for scrapping then save up and get a good unit not some fall apart china junk. In the long run you will save the cost of replacement and repairs.Quote:

My next grinder will be the 7" Makita, I figure I will just lay out the cash and it will be the last one I will ever need to buy. I have a Makita circular saw that is about 25 years old and still out cuts a Crapsman saw any day! The 7" blades are a huge savings over the 4" and 4.5 " blades. Also think of the time saved changing blades.
Put a Makita in your hands and feel the power!

He likely was using an inverter. Or an engine driven power source.
You could power it from your vehicle, or get a deep cycle battery. Get 2 batteries, keep one at home charged up and one at the unit.
After awhile you start getting into money and it might be better to find a quality used set of cordless tools.

I run my TV & video off it, pretty noisy considering what others sound like.
I tried using a jigsaw on it & it just wouldn't handle it, I think its got something to do with the sort of motor though, backfeed of power or such.
It starts to slow down after about 30mins & I have to turn the choke on for a while & the revs get back up again & its OK for another 30 mins.
The grinder/ Make sure the bolts on the head are done up all the time, or the gears seperate & it will munch the teeth up.
Better still replace them with hex heads & maybe wire them up so they won't undo, or use the little metal tab washer things under the hex head to stop them undoing.
Always make sure the grinders got up to full speed before grinding.

I've been using a power inverter off/on for about 8 months now, not a bit of problems. Just make sure you get one big enough to handle the power tool safely so your not running it out of amps, it will shorten the life span.Quote:

For a few dollars more you can go bigger on the peak output (almost double). Out under our canopy this summer we ran 2 screw in florescents and the small 6 amp sawzall for a couple of hours at a time before I would have to start the car.
yes, i PM'd Mechanic before i bought it, and he convinced me to buy the 1200w continuous output, 2400w peak. it serves my purposes with a short set of jumper cables.Quote:

Can anyone tell me, if there is a limit to how many coupons you can use with Harbor Freight?
I ask, because as you all know, I am considering getting the 4 1/2" Angle Grinder from drillmaster for $10 with a coupon I received.
Today, I got more coupons, and one of them is a 10 pack of 4 1/2" cut off wheels for metal, for $5.99 a piece.
I figured I would do as everyone suggested and get 2 grinders, and probably 2 packs of wheels.
Also for anyone looking for a utility knife, they have one from "Pittsburg" that comes with 5 stainless steel blades for $4.49
Also, if you use zip ties (I do on wire a lot of times), they have 100 8" packs for $.99

Harbor frieght coupons will have the limits printed on them. Most of them will say limit 6 per coupon or limit one read the coupon. As far as how many you can use per visit. they dont care about that. I went in with the flyer one week and baught 10 different things all with a coupon and 2 of them were for the free items they were giving away that week. The only thing you cant do there is use a item coupon and a 25% off one on the same item.

How I feel about cheep Harbor Freight tools is buy one when you need it to scrap and then after a few teardowns buy something better with your profits. If it still works use it till it breaks and then scrap it as well!
