I literally am sitting on about 800 tvs/monitors right now, and i dont know.
I know a while back, i was stoked about it. But fact is, im burnt.
I guess i just need some inspiration from yall. Have had a lot of family health issues going on lately, and i've just lost my drive.
I know how hard i need to work this next week, but i just cant seem to get up the motivation. I guess a little scrap family pep talk is what i'm askin' for tonight.
Reckon it's time for some copenhagen and a glass of jack.

I know exactly what you mean, I go around ours and pick out other things to break down then occasionally pick a few tv's then go back to other things. Kinda breaks up the monotony of one thing.

Are you breaking down each one completely as you work? *I would break them down into components then process each component separately. *Make a pile of yokes and a pile of cables etc. *Get rid of the bulk (tubes/plastic). *Then set up to process the yokes in a batch and the same with the wire. *Assembly line style will keep you from switching between tools so frequently.
I agree with scrap master J , that's the way I do it and I never have more than 3 at a time, I just have no choice though due to space limitations... But 800 yeah that's a lot to even think about!

I do it assembly line style. I do 2 at a time. Have a pile for degaussing cables, cones, miscellaneous wires, etc.
I knocked out 67 today. Didn't even make a dent LOL.
Tomorrow i'm goin to Boise to pick up around 100-300 more, + 2-4 gaylords of electronics.
Should be a good week, but darnit the breakdown is just killing me. I can't seem to work fast enough to knock em out before i got 3 times as much as i broke down.
It's a good problem too have, and i'm thankful, VERY thankful for it. But it sure is a PITA.
Hoss am I remember past posts right. You break down the glass with some heat device as well? I wouldnt mind getting some setup to do 100 tv's a week.
No i don't mess with the glass. Once i get it all down to the tube, i take them to a company that takes as many as i can bring in, for free. They ship them out to URT, which recycles the tubes properly.
I thought about doing that, but my fathers health is too fragile to be messing around with lead, and phospherous (or whatever it is) that flys around in the air off the front of the screen.
URT? Im still waiting for a plastics buyer here in denver. Still cant find one. If i did then I would need a place to take just the tubes. Where are you getting so many TV's from if I may ask?
URT is a company that recycles the glass.
I have a plastic buyer that is currently paying me 4 cents a pound. Once my guy gets some contacts straight, ill seperate my plastics and get paid around 10-14 cents a pound. That's ONLY because of my volume. An average joe wont get that price.

Hey Hoss, do you crush or shred the plastics? The few TV's I have done and already the plastics are getting in the way.
I don't do many TV's as it is. Otherwise I would get a wood chipper and see how it works. I may drop the plastics off when I am in the area if you want them?
I had an idea the other day. If you had a dump truck or dump trailer and a conveyor. Strip a tv, toss it on the conveyer where it dumps it into the truck/trailer.
And to think I got rid of a large conveyor a few years ago.
lol george. There are not that many TV's on CL for this area.
I just have that big free trailor you seen before that i dedicate too my plastics. I dont chip/crush/shred them. I'm going to look into it.
And yep id have no problem with that at all man, it's all money! Haha.

Thanks for the info, Hoss. This is great information. URT is Universal Recyclers and does glass-to-glass recycling. They have a facility about 2 hours from me. If the company you take them to takes them for free, that means that URT is paying them for the tubes. All other places I've found charge for it and are half way across the country. Honestly, I'd be satisfied just finding a place that would take the tubes off my hands and cover shipping...Quote:

Hoss, this thread has been on mind all week. 800 t.v.'s!! wow! Man that's great. I got 50 or so. Just mess with em on those rainy days ya know. Anyway, I don't know how to inspire you none. Cept just think of the money! So here's my deal. If you get no motivation I reckon I'd be willing to trade ya a whole roll of copenhagen and a whole bottle of jack for them t.v.'s!

I beleive you....Once people find out you do tvs you can get as many as you want......I was just offered 2000 tvs and monitors and had to turn them down.......I probably have over 200 right now and am burnt out on them.....I dismantle all the monitors myself and my dad occasionally helps me haul away the glass and plastic (The local dump recycles them) Anyways I know your dillema and I respect you for what you do............I told the guy offering me 2000 tv's that I would have to completely change my biz model and rent a huge warehouse get permits etc to dismantle the material.....Now if he said 2000 computers I would have gladly paid him by the lb for them...........Keep on truckin and just do what you can (My dad always tells me the tvs will still be there tommorow)Quote:

Ok here is what you do. Set a goal for the and cheat by starting the day before. You will feel like you are ahead of schedule. Do this reguarly and repeat each day.
