I got 16 desktops, 2 laptops, 4 flat screens and 18 monitors. Paid $110 for the whole lot. More of a goodwill gesture to give this scrapper guy insentive to sell them to me in the future. Now that I got the hookup at goodwill to get rid of the glass and its literly 1 mile from my house ill do all the monitors I can. Should make a nice profit of this haul I think. Some of the desktops even have windows xp disks and codes with them.

You can generate from $12-15 out of each one in scrap value but you have to deal in volume, as in hundreds of them.

Most of the gear I get is from repairers of schools etc.. so they are not keen for the gear to be resold after I get it, and certain clients may ask for a 'certificate of destruction' I do that for the schools as the wish to protect/destroy the hard drive data.Quote:

I got this load from a scrapper contact on CL. I gave him a learning on what the stuff was worth. He said he gets anywhere from 3 to 10 a week. We will see how long it takes him to get another load. So I now have 2 scrappers and 1 computer shop I get mats from on a regular basis. Im growing thats all I care about.

I found a strategicaly delivered flyer is working well too! I have found that cold calling gets more 'NO's' than anything. Its not that they are actually saying NO, its just they think you will waste there time...
So I hand deliver a flyer (under door, or in mailbox) outside of business hrs, then cold call a week later asking if they got the flyer I delivered?? if not, well I have copies on hand and we start taking.
Maybe that could work for you? most have loved the 'free collection' part as most of them seem to hoard a pile in the back corner, wonderig what to do with it LOL

Ok here is what i got so far broke down the 16 towers took me 2 hours and 20 minutes. Now the crappy part is alot of these machines were not complete. Alot of them were missing HD's and like half of them were remote workstations so they didnt have pci cards and the like in them. Alot of ram was missing from machines as well. I payed what I did this time to the scrapper guy to get him to use me in the future. Little greasin of the wheels if you know what I mean. I also ex0plained to him what it ment to be a complete machine so he knew for the future.
180 lbs steel at $.10/lb = $18.00
4.2 lbs of fans at $.15 = $.63
31.7 lbs of cd rom drives at $.16 = $5.07
7.9 lbs floppy drives at $.16 = $1.26
13.4 lbs hard drives at $.85 = $11.39
47 lbs of power supplies at $.25 = $11.75
1.3 lbs ram at $11.50 = $14.95
.8 lbs of p4/amd metal top cpu = about $6
4 lbs of pci cards at $3.60 = $14.40
6.2 lbs of alum heat sinks at $.62 = $3.84
5.3 lbs of wire at $.64 = $3.39
20 lbs of motherboards at $3.60 = $72.00
For a total of $162.68
Yet to dismantle is 2 old laptops or just sell whole for $3 each = $6.00
18 crt's for about $5 each = $90
4 lcd screens = ?
So just in scrap price when its all said and done I should be able to get about $260.00.
Now to the good stuff. In the stuff I tore apart was
1 500 watt coolmax power supply $10 on ebay
7 1gb pc2-5300 ram chips $7 to $10 each on ebay
4 amd athlon 64 x2 processors $20 plus each on ebay
1 80gb ide hd $10 on ebay
1 80gb sata hd $15 on ebay
1 320gb sata hd $20 plus on ebay
1 asus pci express video card $30 on ebay
5 dvdr drives $10 each on ebay
2 copies of windows xp home edition with key codes $20 each at local computer shop.
total of Apox $325 if they all sell on ebay. After fees from ebay and paypal should net about $280.00 for a grand total of $540.00
so for a weekends worth of work
$540.
-110 cost to purchase load
-20 for gas
for a total profit of $410 for what should be no more then 10 hours of total work. we will see how long the crt's take me tomorrow.
and the keeper is a p4 2.8ghz/1m/800 with an intel d915gav/d915pgn motherboard. I think im going to use the coolmax powersupply, 4gb of the ram, 320gb sata drive and make a set top box for out in my living room.

Do you test all the devices before selling at Ebay? It could take a lot of time to test them properly, just interested if you invest the time, or sell them not-tested for lower price?

Nice score. I picked up a couple of loads similar to your last week for free. Cleared a little over 500 and starting to gain a nice collection of processor chips, mainly all 486 and pentium gold caps.
cant complain when its free. Ill take all the free stuff I can get as well but why not make money from others at the same time is the way I look at it. if I could get every scrapper in the denver metro area tonot throw the machines as shred and sell them to me for $5 each I could quit my day job for sure. I talked to the one dud at my yard last week and they said they see at a minimum 20 to 30 towers a week get thrown into the shred pile. I think a phone call to the yard boss might be in order this week.
i agree with you. Better to pay a little and get more quanity. I usually only pay 2-3 dollars ea for towers and .25 a pound when i have to get from scrap yards. I also buy the boards, memory, and processors from people as well. People will definietly remember your # number when you give them cash for something they were previously giving away for free. This week we were able to get approx 100 computers and aprox 1400 Pounds of boards. I usually pay some one to dismantle computers while i chase down the next load.
I so hope I can turn this into those quantities in the next year or so. I would love to get 100 computers a week to tear down.

So far Ive sold 5 ram chips on ebay for $45.00 Im listing them cheap with a cheap buy it now for quick turn and burn.
