I dumped off a real small load (half ton) of steel and didn't have time to go get paid so I let em send me a check. The scale guy had marked it at $175/ton and the clerk in the office scratched it out and put $200/ton on the ticket That was nice!

That's pretty low even with the bonus. Shred up here is going for $250/ton last time I checked.
Light iron (AKA shredder feed) is $215 a ton in Trenton, NJ and has been at that price for months.
$210 / ton here in KC.
Gettin' f&$%$@ over here at 160/ton.
San Jose, Calif is at 270.00 a ton
Lmao, you are. But you have to remember in NJ we aren't that far from shipping areas (Delaware River and the Ocean). Camden is right on the river and Trenton as well is near the river. The yards that are paying less have probably a hell of a lot more shipping costs involved. NJ at most at its widest is maybe 70-75 miles from river to ocean and or NYC.
12.00 per hundred here in howell at blewetts or 240 per ton
Im getting $200 a ton at my local yard.
I figured prices reflect how close to a shipping port a yard is. (Or refinery). I am about 7/8 hours inland of Wa/Or ports.
getting $200.00 a ton for sheet iron. Which I think is the same as what you guys are calling shred. In So. AZ
Yea, this is the lowest grade stuff, probably 50% wall studs. I get truckloads of wall studs all the time because most of my stuff is demolition debris. I pick out anything that I can convert to #1 prep and sell the rest as shread.
230 a ton here in SE Michigan. It varies from yard to yard a lot though.
How far southeast??Quote:
230 a ton here in SE Michigan
265 dirty 295 clean in Ohio
Price up to $210.00 a ton in So. AZ Price jump in August? Weird but I'll take it!!:D
Yeah, um... we get $120 / lb, so I would take your prices any day. ND is as land locked as you can get. Everything here goes by rail.
Just called the other yard. $95 / ton. THAT's why I haven't dealt with that yard!
$240 a ton in mt clemens.
Was $200 a ton back in August, now only $150. Oroville, California.
180 a ton in So. AZ
Price went up a little now $190 a ton in So. AZ
Only $160/ton in Austin. Prices aren't much better in Houston either
$265 a tonne here in Nottingham atm.
Getting jipped in North Carolina! 85 to 100 a ton for shred.
Going for around $220 over here in Michigan.
"Can I scrap it?"
$200 per ton at the honest yards, $150-210 at the "joke" yards. I am paying $180,more for appliances and complete cars
My personal car gave up so I scrapped it. 190/ton.
This yard has you pull off after weigh in, they verify the title matches the vehicle, then they off load. But before they could even get that much done the guy made sure I knew I wouldn't get as much since I "took the cat off". Well duh I did. Like I am going to sell it for 9.5 cents a lb.
Still got the 190 I was quoted before so I don't know why it was such an issue for him.
up to $170/ton Oroville, CA.
It was a yard worker. Unless there is a commission/wage pay scale, he shouldn't care either way.
I got more selling it incomplete, (330.60) versus whole (300). And will make more when I sell the radiator, wire, cat, etc. I also pulled the window latches. They are going for decent money on ebay.
Wish I had more capital. I've come across a few boats recently that would make a nice pay day. Late 70 Lincoln type boats.
Do you ever look other parts up as well before scrapping it? I've sold door handles, rear view mirrors, plastic turn signal housings, hood ornaments, etc on ebay in the past and made decent bank from it. If/when I get to the point where I can scrap cars I plan on ripping all that sort of stuff off it before I scrap it.
