You just seem like a Henry David Thoreau kind of guy to me. That's why i mentioned his name to you a year or two ago. Figured you might pick up on it and discover a kindred spirit.

If i could offer a suggestion ? Try to get out more even if it does cause you social anxiety. Like it or hate it ... we all need social contact with others. It's just a basic human need like food & water.

I believe some should read slower what ChildhoodDream has written over the years. To me he seems to be a very happy and content person, not some old hermit with long hair and nails pissing in mason jars....
Maybe you just don't know what a hermit is. This is a solitary person who keeps to himself and prefers his own company. On the other end of the personality spectrum is someone who is a group oriented person that needs LOTS of social contact to be happy.Quote:

The point of my post was there is no new info here....if he wants to let us into his life more open up and give more if not fine as well....the posts are all basically the same but I guess it's nice some people are still posting.....I myself am not living my childhood dream....who in their right mind dreamed of hauling scrap and breaking down ewaste as a living....I am fairly content as I know what the bottom of the barrel looks like....my story is also documented here and at 13 years sober and being a free man I'm satisfied with my lot in life but I am not ready to pack it in yet

The reason you might want to get out more is it takes you out of your comfort zone. Being well outside of your comfort zone is where most of your personal growth happens. Who knows ... you might even learn to speak a foreign language and have an adventure of some kind.Quote:

Me ... i'm just a student of human nature. Always have been. I'm kind of a solitary. I do my best work alone ... not really a team player. I'm fairly good at most anything i choose to set my hand to. I'm currently working with people in service to my community. It seems like an honorable way to finish out the remainder of my adult working life ... even though the job is a rather humble one.Quote:

Let's say a fulla was deaf and you tried to describe the sound of music to him. He might be blind and you try to convince him that the sky is the color of blue. In either case ... the fulla just wouldn't be able to relate because the sound of music and the color of blue don't exist for him. It's a cognitive issue.
I've got a friend of over 40 years. Lol ... people have called him ass**** for as long as i've known him and probably long before. He's a great mechanic but he's not very good with people. It's quite possibly due to a high functioning form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome. He's completely lacking in the quality of empathy.
About 80 - 90% of human communication in real life social situations actually takes place on a non-verbal level. We read the cues on a subconscious level. I can certainly see why it would seem like a foreign language if you are deaf -or - blind to the cues. It might be a cognitive thing ... ya know ?
It's no big deal really. Especially if you are relatively happy in your solitary life.
Just food for thought if you are trying to unravel the mystery of why people do what they do.

Okay .. so .. have you ever heard of ritual being referred to as a practice of the craft ? (Some also refer to it as the craft of the wise.)

If you really don't know ... how can you possibly presume to judge it ?

I think we covered this before CD but let's give it one last try. There's the internal reality. That's the reality of the world going on between your ears as you perceive it to be. There's the external reality of the world around you. You might call that the external construct or reality.
As long as your internal reality and the reality of the world around you are relatively in synch .... you should be fairly functional.
If the two realities start to distance themselves ... you become progressively more dysfunctional. It makes it very difficult to do things like hold a job and maintain interpersonal relationships. You miss out on a lot of the good things that life can potentially offer like friends, a devoted wife, a family, and a challenging & rewarding work experience. The sex is good too ! ;)

Look ... i'm experienced enough to know that you can't talk people out of their crazy. That's most especially so when they cop an attitude and declare that it couldn't possibly be MY problem. It's the world that's messed up. ( That's a defense mechanism called denial. )
The main reason i suggested cognitive testing is because it's based in science. Science is all about careful step by step reasoned thinking and verification of repeatable phenomena.
I'll tell ya man ... science isn't perfect but it's about as close as you'll ever come to the objective truth of a thing.
From what i understand ... you were a vet that was honorably discharged. You're eligible for Veteran's benefits ? I know that your are relatively happy with your life just the way it is but you could use a little help with the social aspect of things ? They might be able to help you out with that ... ya know ?
It's really up to you ... it's your life to live as you see fit as long as you're not bothering anyone.

I really don't have much more to offer you CD. Near as i can tell ... there really are no absolute truths. Best you can do is what you think is the most probable thing. Even at that ... you have to keep an open mind because something new might come along that will rock your world & turn everything upside down.

I think that it all boils down to the meaning of life. Near as i can tell ... the only possible reason for us all being here is for the growth and development if the spirit within. It's that tiny little spark of the divine trapped within each of us that yearns to return to the source.
Near as i can tell ... we're both getting near the end of days. Maybe we got another 20 years left ? What happens after that is anyone's guess. I suppose we will find out after we have passed through that doorway.
I will say one thing ... it's only the spark that survives. All the rest ... that little clay pot and all the thoughts will cease to exist. It will be as though we never were.
I think you gotta walk in two worlds. Fully immerse yourself in the mundane human experience. Additionally .... keep it all in context and remember that in the grand scheme of G-d & the cosmos .... none of this really matters.

I think it's gonna be harder for the younger generations coming up through. Global population has doubled from 3.5 to 7 billion just in my lifetime. Our community here in Maine depends on fishing to power the local economy and provide jobs. Problem is that most of our fish stocks are badly depleted now.
