Are You Lucky?

Are you lucky? I feel like I am very lucky. In my life, I feel like I win way more than I lose. I am wondering how many here feel like they are on the winning end of the deal.

I remember one time I was at a Chinese restaurant and the fortune cookie fortune I got was, "Your luck is going to change." I was horrified. It actually weighed on my head and heart for quite some time after I got it. I was worried that something capricious as luck could change by the luck of getting a fortune cookie fortune.

I have actually had someone I work with ask me to accompany them on a job. When I asked if they needed help, they told me "no, I was just lucky."

The reason it occurred to me to ask here was that I have just purchased an IPhone at a garage sale. When I powered it up, it asked for a four digit code. I did 1234, and 9876 and a few more codes I though would be geometric shapes and they failed (I imagine each one of you would give the same shot). I looked at the screen and put in 2245 and the phone unlocked. I have done the same thin on a half a dozen phones and have never succeeded. I know that the odds are stacked WAYYYYYYYY against me.

I am wondering how you consider your luck. Do you have any stories that you feel support good luck or bad luck?

I have often heard that luck is merely a matter of taking chances. The more you go after, the better your chances of something working for your benefit. IDK how true that is but it does seem to make sense. Do I consider myself lucky? No.

Perhaps your iphone experience was a premonition. I do believe that we all have some of that ability that is tied to the energies of the universe.

It might be luck or God has other intentions for me. Regardless I am alive after many stupid decisions. Many friends have died making a lot less stupid decisions. When someone asks how I am doing my reply is always the same "alive and kicking."

I played the numbers.

I just usually feel unlucky. I fight hard for everything I have, but the roads have not been easy at all. As far as life be it, I am lucky to be alive and kicking, when it comes to marriage, I feel that I am the luckiest man alive but when it comes to work, luck is far from it.

Odds on your lottery are probably better than the odds on figuring out a 4 numbers on a cell phone unlock. But then again you can try the numbers on the phone for free...

If I go to a casino- I never come home with more than I went with (Break-Even is a GOOD night) and I haven't been to a casino in 20+ years
Lottery Tickets- Same- May break even.. usually lose $
Raffles: Have never won a raffle in my life!

On those type of "gambles" I would say I'm not "Lucky"

But on the other hand- if I am given a level playing field to "seize an opportunity" I'm REALLY good at that.
I have a former friend who used to say "Man I've never seen someone who can make a dollar out of a dime like you!!"

But to me- planting seeds, building relationships, keeping at it- isn't luck- it is hard work and skill!

Honestly, my luck is either incredible or horrible, never middle of the road. Work wise, I've always had the worst of luck, at the same time though, long story short with a procedure my mother had when she didn't know she was pregnant with me, her doctor was baffled to find out a week later she was five weeks pregnant and I was born healthy...

T00nces2, send some of that luck my way. I ate some Chinese food a few weeks ago and when I opened my fortune cookie, there was nothing inside. It seems like there's always an obstackle in the way of the treasure I seek. Nothing comes easy for me.......constantly having to make sugar out of s**t.

What I do have is a wonderful wife (28 years) three awesome kids, a good job, great insurance and a roof over my head. I am truly blessed.

I'm 61 and I can tell you that all my life the harder I worked the luckier I got. I truly believe that the two go hand in hand.

Everything he says is true. I do what he says and I get lucky breaks. I do not count on the luck, but I look back on my life and the dice seem to come up my way. If my luck holds out, I will be a 97 year old who gets shot by a jealous husband.

I believe the results of good work ethics, proper timing and educated business decisions can be misinterpreted as luck to those who live by different criteria. And when you have truly good intentions, you get universal bonus points that come off as absurd to those with less than ideal practices. No actual data, just observations from living. Intend good to those around you, and all with those same intentions will succeed with you.

And I second RustyDollars' sentiment about my luck being directly proportional to how hard I work.

Well, I just got a trash can full of aluminum (99% cans + some foil and assorted random aluminum bits) from a neighbor, so I'm feeling quite lucky right now! :D

As the old saying goes, if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all! I feel like nothing comes easy for me, to the point where It gets me down and I say to myself why even bother? But I keep on keeping on, lol. And btw I completely agree with Adam Corolla, I'd never seen that but man that's a good motivational speech.

I am lucky my kids are doing well and after losing my first wife to cigarettes I have found a great woman , I have never been laid off and had a great paying job for years !! I do say sandblasting was not easy or clean but one does what it takes to put the food on the table !! Now retired at 58 and still scrapping on the side !!

I have a Godly reverence or superstitions to never assume . Like a simple statement like - - I'll see you tomorrow --
I will say - - god willing I will see you tomorrow -- We can never assume .
So to not sound boring , to just wake up & be a part of the world is good luck .

But you want a story I got one --
It was the last of the cold winter of 2017 .
Below zero & my water froze .
So I figured i better get my space heater & put it in the frozen back room before pipes burst .
I am feeling frantic , also I need to get to work,
The space heater was in my room sharing a electric plug with a TV
the 30 pound TV was on a swivel TV shelf 6 feet off the floor & above the space heater
Sooooo ..... I am crouched over trying to pull the heater out grabbing plugs with out thinking
The TV plug gets a TUG and the TV see saws off the shelf (you guessed it ) FLAT onto to my shoulder area back
BOOM was the feeling . The second it happen , I knew what happen - -
I said to my self I feel OK is this possible , I moved and was testing my body - but I could tell I was OK. Sure I had some concerns
during the day like is - that feeling normal ? I was OK no problems .
All day I kept thinking , How I had 2 paths on this day I could have gone
Path one - Sitting in a hospital getting a prognosis sorry I will never move as I once did
Path two - living life , working , like usual .

So you ask am I lucky ? YOU BET I AM !!

Well, luck pulled me out again... I was delivering Wednesday night and as I cameout from a delivery, I noticed my rear tire was nearly flat to the ground. Now, for a long time I have carried tire plug kit in the truck, but the tire was flat enough I would not want to drive. It would have flopped off pretty quickly. Now for my luck... I cleaned out the truck bed two days before. I was putzing in the garage and happened to grab the 12v cig lighter tire pump I had picked up at a garage sale who knows when for a quarter and had thrown it in the truck. I plugged the tire and plugged the pump in and it started up and reinflated the tire. Had the same thing happened two days before, I would have been stuck. I know a case can be made that it always pays to be preparred, but the timing was fortuitous. The plugs had always been enough to get me out of trouble forever, but I needed that pump right when I needed it. I should not be gredy, but I wish my luck was in the winning lottery ticket area so I just could have just thrown the truck away and bought a new one.

Got a good one, just bought a dual tandems gooseneck used. outside tires on both sides looked pretty well done for, insides looked good visually. Got a call for a pickup on my way back with this new trailer. Decided it was not worth it until I've got new tires. BOOM blow the tire out on the INSIDE and took the skin off the backside of the outside sidewall at the same time. Had I made that pickup might have spread towers and gaylords across the interstate.
