Shred price

Shred is up another $10.00 to $65.00 Cdn/ tonne here in Ottawa. Still not great, but better than $40.00/ tonne last Fall. We'll see if it holds up once the snow melts (currently have about 4 ft on the ground). The forecast is for above freezing temperatures next week so that should be the beginning of Spring. With the better prices those steel piles under the snow will get cleaned up. I've got a bunch stranded in the back yard that I'll have to get rid of before I get the stink eye from the neighbours.

I've noticed the first signs of Spring around here too. Mainly people overfilling donation bin areas, which I've noticed is usually an indicator that I will be getting more frequent calls from people cleaning up garages and basements.

I'm looking forward to putting a load together. Up to 85$/ton in Cornwall, Ontario. I've got 2 cars buried here and lots of appliances.

If I had the space, I could have stocked up on a lot of appliances this Winter. With the low prices, scrappers have been leaving appliances sit at the curb for much longer than in the past.

We got a $10 bump also. currently at 60/Ton. better than the low of 40/ton

I have quite a pile but most of it is frozen in till at least the end of the month, in the center of the pile will be another two weeks after that.
that's the price I pay for not throwing pallets down first...

Almost .05/lb here today

.025 /lb

Up to .055/lb today, but I think my yard is just trying to fill an obligation...

Up to $80/ton here today in Central Indiana

$35/ton here in Montana, up from $20 last month.

$110 a gross ton in albany ny, 50 a gross ton locally.

I think we aren't so much seeing a direct commodity rise as a rise in rates due to reduction in shipping and processing costs.

I would definitely disagree with that statement, shipping and definitely processing costs have not went down. Some shredders are getting desperate for material to keep the machines running,
some of us are seeing the pathetic competition fall to the wayside (people that overbuilt at the top and are now upside down with no way to make ends meet)
alot of the bottom feeders are closing . honestly about every other scrap yard is for sale, the ones that are not are trying to sell extra equipment great time to be in the market for used equipment


Now I will blow your mind, if you have enough cash this is a great time to open a yards, but there is no chance of a loan to make it happen so you got to have your own capital...

Back to the subject: prices are normalizing it will slowly rise up to about $150/ short ton USD give or take 10% it will probably not happen this year... Sorry folks, Obama's presence alone has the world markets very reserved (scared)

for those of you that think China is the be all end all. China wants the scrap to start moving (volume) but they do not want to overpay for it, so they will slowly raise prices til they get the volume they want at the lowest price. How is this different then everyone else in the world... in the rest of the world if you overpay you loose money, in China if you overpay without permission, you dissappear http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/guns/ak47.gif

With regards to bare bright, I just checked a specialty yard in CT. $2.00 for bare bright. Over 1000 pounds and you can get a higher dealer price. Checked one in NJ and there at $2.08.

@ht1 I was told we lost two jobs because a competitor over bid by 25 on one job and 30 on another per ton. Major tonnage to. Scrap yards are getting desperate for material to keep employees busy and machinery running. Processing hasn't gone down if it cost you 42-45 dollars a ton to shred material last year or the year before. That cost is the same. The price of off road diesel has gone down that's really it but if you're moving 30-40 percent less scrap you don't really have a cost savings because you aren't making huge money every month. You have the same overhead no matter if you were moving 10,000 tons and now your only moving 7000 tons a month. Cranes are sitting instead of moving. If you don't have industrial customers you don't have material. The peddler is non existent.

80 a ton in port perry. I know Hamilton was more last I checked

$85 ton here

Shred 105/ton, cars 115/ton and steel rims 140/ton here north of toronto.
