Hi this is Mechanic and if anyone might be interested I've been in this ft wayne hospital for over a month now. Prognosis does not look too good from here.
My friend/ex-partner brought me this laptop so I can get a few things done on the net instead of throwing it all on the wife.
I will pop in occasionally but just want to let my friends know why I disappeared. Thanks for the friendships over the years. They meant a lot to this old man.

My extended time in the hospital was much more difficult than I could have ever imagined.

I have really learned some good stuff from some of your posts and have enjoyed reading them all. All the best to you and your family. I have had a time or two with extended stays in the hospital, not fun at all, just remember to watch those hands around the nurses. lol. All the best and God bless.
mechanic, You are in our thoughts and prayers. You are a such a great asset to the forum, wishing and praying for your recovery.
Good to hear from you again, Mike. I was wondering where you were. Dont give up the ship, we can be stronger than we ever imagined when we need to. Hospitals can be the worst place in the world to be, but the laptop should help pass the time. Godspeed on your recovery, my friend!

Mechanic I cant add much to what was already said however you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

As the others have said...words can not express what I owe to you for all I've learned here. From scrapping a computer to just about anything else, I knew I could depend on you for an answer or a link when I saw you post. When I was walking the line you were there nudging me back to the side of not getting in trouble....for all that an more I thank you an call you friend. You were one of the first to join that list, an you'll always be there. I don't think your officially a Cooler Puller, but I think I speak for all the other ones when I say you are one..whether you like it or not. :)

Seems most times there's a post saying "I searched for x and couldn't find it", within a couple posts, there you are with 2 or 3 links to threads covering the question. Wishing you good luck with whatever you're going through.

Mike - I first joined this forum more than five years ago, after lurking on the internet sideline for more than a year. I'm the type of person that has always "Blazed my own Trail", plus or minus, black and white, yes and no with not much in between, it was my way or the highway for most I encountered. Once I joined this forum, I still did not participate for months, as I was "testing the waters". Mostly as I needed to know, "was this for me?".
Mick and you (a few others) were people that I had decided, yes I can relate to and more important for me, have a exchange of thought with. One of my first post, was a "hijacking" of another members post. I asked a very selfish and self serving question. It was something like "where can I sell my gold and get my money now?", type of post. You set me straight with a response along the lines of "cool your jets" and take sometime to learn about the facts. Most others ignored me completely (rightly so), you continued to engage me by encouraging me to learn from all other members (past and present).
Mike simply put I would have not stayed with this forum without your leadership, mentoring, humor, sternness and above all, you CARE for all of us. I will pray for you and your family, I have seen modern medicine do amazing turnarounds, in persons I know. Remain positive, strong in faith and most important "keep your will for another day".
We will be here keeping this forum advancing my friend, as we have a leader that showed us how it is done!
I thought part of the quietness in recent times had been the absence of Mech688. I'm sorry I did ask about you earlier. There's not much that I can add that hasn't been said before Mike but for whatever comes, its been a honor trading and seeing your posts on here. God's speed!!

Just a quick and further update. The Ft Wayne Ind. Va healthcare system has done it again. Simply put; they gave me notice at 3pm that they would no longer pay my bill at the other hospital I had been in and had until 7pm to be in the ambulance for a 3 hr ride down to Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center down here in beautiful Indianapolis Ind. Look out Sledge, I'm moving in.lol So how long I am able to be here I do not know as of now. I'll try to keep everyone posted of my progress or lack of but I still appreciate all of the friends thoughts and prayers as I guess one can never have enough. thanks again,,,, Mike

Mike I am at a loss and am saddened to hear of your health issues. You have been one of the people here that I can honestly say has been a like a proffesor to me and so many of us here. Without your guidance and patience I don't think this forum would be where it is today. I will be praying for you and your family in the coming days. Keep fighting and stay strong. You have a very big extended family that is behind you.

Keep that fire going, about the only thing I can say about the VA is they get that bully mentality and after a while I had to threaten to call my congressman and that was the end of that until I could leave under my own power (the first time). My thoughts and prayers go with you, I wish you could get what you need from Zablonki VA in Milwaukee, they are far and away the best VA in the country.
You have a very, very large family here that's praying for you. If there is anything that any of us can ever do to help, I'm sure I speak for most of us that we would do whatever we could to help.

Also wanted to say SMF is the best forum out there. I'm on a video forum and a truck forum and they don't compare to this one. No Internet forum is perfect, but this one is the best... A lot of that has to do with Mechs temperament, patience and guidance.

When I spend nearly two months in hospitals(I got transferred a few times to different hospitals) I would have been happy for the opportunity to be online and participate in a great forum.

Actually a lot of the greatness of this forum is all the members sharing what they find to better the others members. I just occasionally take out a little trash but this forum wouldn't be half what it is without all the great members.Quote:
